Shop air hose

I have a 100' "Husky" air hose. At the moment, I try to coil it up on a hose hanger for storage - without much success. It doesn't matter how I try to coil it, reversing direction or not, blah, blah - it just will NOT coil flat. I've hauled it out several times to straighten it out on the ground - doesn't do a damn thing.

Should I:

1)Remove my head from my ass because I'm doing something wrong?
2)Get a different brand that's easier to deal with?
3)Get an air hose retractable reel?

3 - I waited in the shadows until I saw an open box return of a Cox 30’ ez-coil reel at Amazon and jumped on it. A few scratches saved me nearly 50%. My garage is only a lit tke over 20 feet deep, so mounting it at the main door easily reaches anywhere in the garage and into the alley. However, I fully acknowledge that for those of you blessed with a larger garage / shop this may not be nearly as economical solution.

I also have a couple retractables that I got used and hung one on the ceiling and one of these days I intend on hooking it up!

I have another couple lengths that I use occasionally when I need more distance, they are rubber ones. The only way I can get them to co-operate half way is to make large coils on the ground then hang them up high on a garden hose hoop. Easier in summer.

I "think" its rubber. Its a nice hose otherwise.

Harbor Freight has these hose reels on sale right now. I just picked one up yesterday. Quality seems fine for my garage.

A reel, for sure.

I’ve been using the same plastic 50’ reel for the last 20+ years. Hard to believe it’s held up that long. I’ve mostly wall-mounted it… but right now it’s bolted to a steel shelf inside the garage. It sits right on a shelf so it doesn’t jut out off the wall anywhere. Just have to keep the crank handle clear of stuff that shelves tend to collect.

I saw that, its certainly a contender.

Instead of bolting mine to the wall I used an L shaped piece of square tube, bolted the tube to the wall with the other part sticking out from the wall then I bolted the reel to the tube with a single bolt in the center and some washers, loose enough to allow the reel to swivel in any direction. A Nylock keeps the hanger bolt from coming apart.

FWIW my main 100 feet of hose is Blue Pliovic (two 50 footers) which has lasted me many years and cooperates nicely on the reel. My backups are Goodyear rubber (now Continental) and those are a bit stiffer and heavier. Like I mentioned I don't try and coil those too tight, maybe 3 foot coils.

edit: I *think* it is Pliovic but now I'm having doubts and will have to go check after breakfast.

After watching the video I learned that you can buy re-useable ends for the Flexzilla lines for repairs or custom lengths. I have a 25 foot Flexzilla but I didn't need 25 feet for the TJ so I bought a Continental 15 footer. I ordered some Flexzilla ends today to make a custom length Flexzilla, the 1/4" ones are only 3.99.

That was a good video - now I know why mine's a bitch to coil up. Its a hybrid PVC/Rubber hose: designed not to kink and to lay flat - which it does - but the PVC is fighting me at coil up time. Time to try a reel as several here have suggested.

I've switch to Flexzilla hoses for my shop hoses and OBA hoses. I have zero complaints with them. They coil nice every time and seem every bit as durable as rubber hoses.

I still have one rubber hose that I use for my plasma cutter outside the shop and I hate it every time I use it.
