Should I install a SYE kit?

I got my jeep back from the shop after an alignment and was told to consider getting an sye kit. This is where my rear driveshaft currently is after the alignment. Should I also get a longer driveshaft? Any recommendations? It has a 4 inch lift and adjustable control arms and track bars.

With a 4" lift you definitely want an SYE. I bought the G2 SYE kit primarily because it was the cheapest, no complaints. Then you'll need a double cardan driveshaft cut to the proper length. Most people here recommend Tom Woods, although I'm an Adams fan. I have 3 of them on different jeeps, very high quality. Also there's a 15% off coupon if you know where to look. They'll show you where you need to measure from once you have the SYE installed.

Also, the general opinion here is that you should probably go with a super short SYE (SSSYE), which requires some different speedo components. FWIW, I wish I had gone with the super short. YMMV.

You had me at 4" lift...if you can afford it...get it done...not too hard to do yourself. Get a replacement driveshaft at the same time. You'll need to rotate the pinion up to around 3 to 5 degrees of parallel with the new driveshaft...and you already have adjustable upper control arms...so easy!

Also consider a cable shifter for your transfer case. If nothing else it makes pulling the transfer case that much easier.

You definitely want a SYE and shaft but in the short term space the belly pan down about and inch to not tear things up.

Oh I already have a cable shifter lol definitely better

Most lessor expensive lifts come with something to lower the skid to help when running the factory driveshaft. You can DIY that so you can drive it until you get the SYE.

My PO put a 4" lift on mine and probably drove it with that driveshaft angle for ten years.

Happy to come up and help you install one.

I live on 17 acres...need a shop... fixing everything in the gravel under a tarp shelter... you're welcome to bring it on down here...lots of good places to wheel.

I measured it out and gotten 22.5 but took off 3" based on Tom woods site. Does that sound about right?

The general consensus is to measure the length after installing a sye.
You should consider a jb conversions supper short sye. This sye will be helpful in the future if you decide on a tummytuck. Buy once cry once.

When I did mine, I called Adams and they seemed to imply if you gave them a specific measurement pre-SYE and told them which SYE they would be able to determine the correct length. I ended up just waiting and taking the actual measurement, but I would trust anything Adams says (with respect to driveshafts).
