I remember a rear shock thread where someone was posting that as the greatest solution ever.
A side story...I was out and about one day, at the shop of a locally well know Jeep mechanic. He had someone there that he was doing some welding for. Dude was making a Jeep hauler on the back of his tractor (semi truck). Decent idea, for a long haul. So I was checking it out and the guy had some 5" tubing that stacked on top of the truck chassis (which is a c channel). He then drilled holes and thru bolted the tubing to the c channel without any to of reinforcement for the bolt to clamp against (1/2” bolts, iirc).
I mentioned to him that it would be a good idea to put some spacers in there, so the bolt wouldn't just compress the tubing. He told me, "it's 1/4" wall, it's going to be fine.".
Yup...OK buddy. No problem.
