Stroker vs re-gear

It isn't so much the stroker itself as finding valvetrain parts of the same quality installed originally. Add the larger cams everyone runs in a stroker, plus the lack of zinc in engine oil and they have more issues than an original 4.0l.

I also only run #24lb injectors.but haven't taken it through extreme elevation changes. Some day I'd like to get it tuned by flyin ryan.

I would probably just run the stock cam myself, and something like VR-1 10w30.

Unless it was a Roots I'm not sure that is totally on-point. Centrifugal superchargers do not give you instant off-idle snap like a roots blower or, for that matter, a longer stroke.

Overcoming poor tire/gear combos through brut force is a losing proposition for a number of reasons, drive train stress being one.

If your 4.0 is tired, most likely the drive train is too and off the line bonsais will be a recipe for trouble.

But hey, at least help won’t have trouble finding you, they’ll just have to follow the trail of parts.

I don't believe you've driven many unnaturally aspirated Jeep TJ's.

No ... but obviously if you put a turbo or centrifugal on an engine and a 177 Weiand on another engine of similar specs, the Weiand is going to make way more power off-idle. I'm sure a supercharged 4.0 has plenty of mid-range, but off-idle I don't see the supercharger doing much - unlike a longer stroke.

In that case you need to rebuild the axles and the engine ...

And have a close look at the transmission, but in either case you’ve added additional time and cost, which adds further contrast to your post. (3k vs 2k)

yes 100%.

Another reason just to wait until stuff breaks to upgrade, I guess.

I mean this stuff is fun to think about and debate, but realistically there is a reason that so many people run a pretty similar setup - a 4.0 with 4.10 - 4.56 gears and 31s - 33s is going to get you anywhere you wanna go in a very reliable manner. You wanna play games and try a stroker with a 3.07 gear, well maybe it works out and maybe it doesn't, but that's the chance you are taking by being the oddball.

Yep. To reiterate, the stroker helps, but IMO, not nearly enough for 3.07 gears on 33 tires with any transmission.

Well, it is indeed a Jeep.

It's going to find a way to burrow into your wallet.

I'm pretty sure that buying a Jeep is one of the first recommendations in Dave Ramsey's path to financial independence 🤡

This is my third Jeep, I've blown way more money on my 65 GTO than I ever will on a Jeep. To me, the main issue with a Jeep isn't so much what you break or how much it costs to fix it ... it's WHERE you are when it breaks. You're not gonna be doing burnouts in an old hot rod on some remote-ass forest road in the middle of a snowstorm with no cell service ... but that's exactly where I'll be if i break my Jeep ....

How to say I don't know crapola about forced induction without saying I don't know crapola about forced induction. You wanna know why I went to the trouble of acquiring and installing a supercharger? That's right, it was posts like yours making comparisons to arrive at conclusions that are not based in reality or truth. I wanted to know the truth of things, I spent the time and money to figure it out and now I know.

Stop saying stuff you know nothing about. All you need to know is I could romp on it and smoke the tires as long as I cared to stay in it from a dead stop.

Go ahead, say something about drivability, I dare you.

Ah well - thanks to those of you that chose to be helpful. I always like to play devil's advocate, helps flush out the good info from the BS. You can tell when someone knows their stuff, they respond in a calm manner and provide a rational technical explanation for their position. The dyno charts were especially useful.

gears or stroker?

Yes.
How many jelly beans fit in the jar? True or False?

Yep. To reiterate, the stroker helps, but IMO, not nearly enough for 3.07 gears on 33 tires with any transmission.
Game over. You win. That's why I want both. Keep my 4.56's and add a stroker.

No wait... I want yours. Far and away my favorite build. Just sayin..

Settle down.
And that there, is where things went sideways...
