I will be pulling the trigger soon on my 4" lift for a 99 TJ.
Was planning on a SYE when someone suggested a short SYE. What are the pros and cons for short vs regular SYE?

Short you need to fix the speedo with a blue monkey speedo healer. Otherwise it is just a better SYE since it is shorter and allows for a longer driveshaft. Either one will work fine for the majority of builds.

Anyone know the extra cost for the speedo healer?

I tried to find a link to the Blue Monkey healer but it appears they have gone out of business...

The HealTech should work as well and comes in around $150 from what I remember.

You can buy used for about $50 and with just a minor amount of wiring get it to fit your wrangler. @rasband has done it.

I always suggest a super short sye. Price wise there is little to no difference. You get a longer driveshaft that can help alleviate vibes

I had a JB SS SYE on my YJ and it was an extremely solid piece of machinery. Really quality stuff. But, different application - I don't know much about the speedo calibration on TJs. The YJ was plug and go if I remember correctly.
But the quality of their equipment is really top shelf.

Used they are anywhere from $50-80 or so (check ebay, most come off motorcycles). If you're not afraid of a tiny bit of wiring - you can get any used one (doesn't have to be TJ specific) and the pigtails (male and female). Then you just disconnect the current connector and put the speedo healer in-line. No hacking up existing wiring and you can run as long of lines as you want to put the speedohealer wherever you want it.

I got my speedohealer on eBay for $130 and it came with the Jeep harness already in it so just plug and play. Another vote for the super short. I’ll take any cheat code I can to reduce driveline angles. Especially if you might do a tummy tuck later.

If your not doing a tummy tuck you dont need a Super Short. I have an Advance Adapters slip yoke eliminator and it works just fine on 5.5" of spring lift. No vibrations at all.

This is true, but there also isn't a downside to the super short besides the extra cost to fix the speedo. I know that when I put my AA SYE on I had no plans to TT. That SYE had to get replaced when I eventually got the Savvy UA. A super short is just good insurance.

Same exact thing happened to me

So the UA doesn't fit with the AA SYE? Is this just a factor of the Savvy design and AA or a common issue with UA and a non-SS SYE?

It is close to fitting but the driveline angles get tight, The extra few inches the SS SYE takes off the transfer case makes all the difference for your driveshaft angle and is especially important if you start to throw more travel at the rear axle (outboard).

Note: you only need a speedo healer if your gearing doesn't match your tires.
