The grass is greener, get the F out of your home state thread

One State I had ZERO interest in was Idaho. Most of the people there were rude. The museum in Idaho Falls had a 'white people suck' section, too.

Wow, really? We spent time in Twin Falls and the Boise/Eagle area on our trip last year and I was stunned how nice the people were and how clean everything was compared to the SF Bay Area. Probably doing another trip this year to check out the northern part of Idaho this summer but the Commiefornia exit is scheduled for 2-5 years max. My family didn't defect from a communist dictatorship almost 40 years ago so we could live in America under the threat of the woke mob. Thanks but no thanks.

We had the same experience with southern Idaho, lots of friendly, welcoming people
We ended up in the Spokane area because that's where the jobs ended up

The river/falls were nice and they had some nice bike trails. The drivers sucked and we were cussed at more than once for no apparent reason. (Once by a Latino lady and once by a white guy) As stated earlier, the woke was strong in that town. The museum was nice but the white people suck corner upstairs was shocking. On a side note, we did see a Christian punk rocker. At least he was dressed like one. Crosses on his leather jacket and cross earrings to match. He was actually a nice fellow. Talked to him for a bit.

We also stayed in Vegas on the first and last night of the trip. (My wife is Ceasars Diamond)

Wow, that place has changed. It's a pretty rough crowd and the whole city smells like weed. I mean the streets, the casino floors, the friggin' refrigerator in our room, the parking structure...everywhere. You can't even smoke it in those locations but it doesn't matter.

Maybe it's the times. It was a much more low brow crowd than the dozens of times I've been in the past. Even our stay in Wendover was sketchy as hell...even for West Wendover.

Everything is so impersonal and the lines are long. No valet parking was available when we were there. The check-in was via machine. The host didn't have much to offer and was only available by phone. The elevators were 4 people max so the lines were long just to get to your room. And the tables and slots were filled with plexiglass so you had to wedge into your chair and couldn't move. Plus...the drink ladies were few and far between. Oh...and the slots were tight. I was up for a little but haven't done this bad in a long while.

The hoochies were out in full force. I saw more spandex and fights this trip than I have in the past ten trips.

I’ll ask. His parent rolled their fiver in today and we chat often.

LE patrol...yeah I left $45 an hour. NO way I’d it for half, even in a rural area as you still deal with the meth and DV shit. I’d rather deal with gangs.

Yeah, I’m with you. Idaho is done. It’s part of CA, OR, and WA at this point.

Montana’s the same but I’ll get you the info. 👍
The price of housing is all over the place in the Billings area. Some seem over priced and some seem like a really good deal and half what they go for here in my area. It's enough to make it work, though. I mean, I saw a 5 bedroom 3 bath nice newer 3100 sqft home with a granny flat and covered shop/barn on just under 2 acres for under 500k in Laurel. (Where my potential job is) My chief concern is the lack of rentals, lack of being right in the middle of the mountains, and the white trash I saw more of in DT Billings (East side specifically) than most other places in Montana. (The flavor in Billings was ricer and the flavor in Libby was tweeker)

I should see him tomorrow and ask about those areas. I know from the little I read, Billings was full of meth heads and lots of crime for the area and size of the town.

Then again, you being out of town on some land keeps you from most of that.

Well, Billings is the largest City in Montana. Sad, considering it about the same population as the County seat here locally.

Any info would be gracefully accepted.

In all honesty, I'd love to be in Flathead but the job pay is crap and the housing is outrageous. That's the story for a lot of areas of Montana. Billings has railways and energy production so the jobs are there and maybe it is not as close to Yellowstone as Bozeman so the price of housing is still a little lower as a result.

Like most big cities in the end. Funny thing is, you did LE before so you know....major crime in in Montana is NOTHING compared to CA.

Yes, meth, property crime, petty person to person....

I’ll ask. Flathead is a nice looking area from the pics I have seen but man....$$$$$

Ugh....

I've had pretty good job offers in misc locations.

Billings, MT...I turned it down. No health insurance offered. Salary position on project based work. Red flags....

Bozeman, MT. Probably going to turn them down. The housing market is just as bad as where I'm at in CA now and the pay is $10 less an hour. Not in love with the area but man, the job is awesome, otherwise.

Lincoln County, WY. So far this one is the biggest disappointment. I love that area and the housing market is super cheap. The job is awesome but the pay is just under half of what I'm making now. I didn't know this going in. With current expenses (the ones that won't change no matter where I go) I just can't make that work. It's a shame because Wyoming, Kemmerer, and Afton are really ideal.

Back to square one.

If the housing is that cheap and the job is that good, coming from Commifornia might work. Could you buy a house outright?

What about TX? It’s not on your list, and you may have X’d it out for job reasons or other, but the New Braunfels area is nice.

Nope, Can't buy outright. Not at this moment.

Like I mentioned, car payments, credit card payments, other regular expenses being what they are, there is a minimum. Less than half of what I make now is below that minimum. It's a shame because the job seems like a lot of fun and the people I interviewed with were really nice.

Sorry, TX isn't on the list. My sister lives there and I've got a good buddy that moved there and keeps trying to get me to come out but honestly it's not even on the top five States. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

It’s one of the reasons I cut Idaho, Montana and Wyoming off my list. The pay just couldn’t get me there. Even paying cash for a home, raising three boys isn’t cheap. 😂

I will be getting out of Oregon in July. It's to bad this state is run so poorly because the natural beauty is outstanding. Last year I was forced to move from southern Oregon to Eugene. I have never lived anywhere quite like Eugene. I wouldn't wish this city on my enemy. It is sad because I have met some really great people here. I will be moving back to AZ and am looking at the Gilbert area. Unloading a moving truck in July in AZ is going to be super fun!

Just call a local moving company and hire their labor to unload it for you. They will get it done quickly and safe.

I would but that would seriously cut in to the Jeep budget.:) I had nomadic parents growing up so am faster at moving than most. I have probably move 40+ times in my life. I used the u-haul pods when I moved to Oregon and will most likely use them again. I've already got 50% of the house packed and just need to finish prepping the Jeep to be flat towed. Just need to find a good welder to fix my track bar bracket and hopefully make the tow bar brackets easily removable. I'm know I'm way ahead of schedule but am just so darn excited to get out of here!

Good for you man. I’ve moved....5 times in my life so I have zero experience compared to you. But I’m listening and selling/donating most of my things to make it easier.

Friend of mine just had a sister move from CA to Texas. Bought a 53’ shipping container and it cost her $6k total from buying to transport and crane work.

I’m seriously considering this route as I can fit my home and my Jeep in one container as have storage at the new property.
