Turn key crate 4.0s?

My old wakeboard boat had a 454 in it... originally had a 302. Bought it off a hot rod buddy that had swapped it. Results were not what we were expecting. Boat got significantly better gas milage (gallons per hour) because it ran at a fraction of RPMs. Hit that thing full throttle and would yank someones arm off.

There's probably a job where a 632 inch 1000+ hp motor gets better fuel consumption.i can't think of one though...

I looked at the S&J site. Their prices seem in line.
Anyone know if such a swap can be done here in Ca without violating the SMOG requirements?

Just an FYI... S&J received a 4.0 block on 4/24... but it won't be ready for 12ish weeks. Sounds like they only keep one on hand.

Called Napa yesterday and they don't have any available.

Guess I'm going to be in the market for a second vehicle to get me around until a motor is available.

Or find a used 4.0 to slap in for now. I see them on CL and FB all the time.

Might last 12 weeks, days, minutes or seconds but it's an option.

I'm probably going to snag a spare engine or a 5.2 once I get my shop built.
