I’ve wanted an LJ since they first came out. I finally bought one when I turned 40. Off of eBay, no less. From only a few photos and a couple of phone calls with the (very honest and forthcoming owner). Jeep came from New Mexico/Texas/Arizona and was part of an rv convoy where it was trailered on a flat trailer. It had 68k on it when I received it. It was in great shape—both tops, tiny tires, original (but badly pitted wheels), and a few extras (new clutch in box, new rotors, a windshield gasket, etc). I was stoked but sorta hated how it sat. Three years later and it’s where you see it now. I’m currently awaiting my turn to have the axles upgraded to 4.56 with chromoly shafts and limited slip carriers front and rear. Jeep has been overbuilt for extended camping trips down whatever roads take my wife and I there. Tend to like to buy things once as it’s always cheaper in the long run. Here’s what’s happened so far:
Redline trans fluid (would pop out of first)
Removed poorly riveted diamond plate, had the holes plugged with metal and rockers refinished/painted
Morryde to replace smittybilt swing away carrier
Metalcloak led taillights
All new stereo components and kicker powered 8” sub
Sold hardtop (live in a super hot place with limited storage. May regret it. Haven’t yet)
New top
Replaced smittybilt front bumper and winch with warn m8000, arb bull bar, and arb solis lights
Opda replaced
New plugs
Currie 4” springs
Jks front and rear sway bars
Metalcloak double adj aluminum arms upper and lower front and back
Bilstein 5100s
Swayloc manual kit
Motobilt rear bumper
Bfg 33x10.50x15s on quadratec wheels (had some gift cards and they were on deep sale)
Have attached a photo or two of what it looked like vs where it is. I love this thing. The swayloc tightened up the body roll significantly and it goes where I point it. For disclaimer purposes, I don’t intend to beat on it. Just want to not worry about it when we plan to go wherever that is.
Thanks for looking.
