Being a TJ nut , or maybe just being a nut in general , I get calls to help folks find them , evaluate, etc .
A nice young man reached out to me about my 06 Rubi automatic, and he was looking to spend 10k or under , so I told him if he found one I would be glad to look at it with him ..he found a 2000 Sahara for 129,000 and got it for 7500.00
This is what we found , and I think it's very typical of the used market , and why recommendations to do fluids, etc. by members are so important .
The rear diff was a half quart low, I don't think the fill plug had ever been off.
The drag link/inner tie rod end had a lot of play
Needed greased
Had crazy body roll..all sway bar link bushings/links were shot , front and rear
Toe was in 5/8 too much
All tires were at 14-15psi
Otherwise , no dings or torn fabric , good soft top, clear windows , ran great .
We rolled my 03 out of the shed , rolled the Sahara in -2-3 hours and a little parts running and the guy has a solid little Sahara .
What's the point of this thread-
First , you guys are spot on with new purchase recommendations , all the time . Speaks well of the forum.
Secondly , it seems these things either get no maintenance long term , or just as bad , the previous owner does weird stuff and that has to be sorted out. I do contend the #1 problem with most Jeep Wranglers is the previous owner .
As a side note , most of you know I like the Rubicon package...but what I haven't said much on here is that cosmetically and interior comfort wise , I love the Saharas as well , and have for years .
I recently rode with @Hog and I noticed his older Sahara seats are still fantastic ..well ahead of the later model Rubicons in comfort.
Do you guys agree with me this is typical of today's TJ market ? Just various , neglected maintenance issues and beyond .
