U-joint question

Hey gang,

I replaced the front drive shaft ujoint at the pinion last summer on my 05 LJR and noticed this today. I can’t for the life of me remember whether or not it had the clips on the inside or outside to keep the caps on. I did the joint in July and have no reason to believe it’s loose but it just seems odd. Both sides are like this well which doesn’t help. I can only remember the factory ones being held in by the injested plastic. Thoughts, and thanks in advance.

Are the clips on the inside of the joint?

I haven’t pulled the shaft to give it a solid once over, but I vaguely remember clips. It was too cold to deal with the bolts on the tcase end. Just curious as I remember that joint being different from any other I’ve done.

GM had the clips that are outside the cap in the fork, Jeeps use a c-clip on the inside...at least for the ones I have done.

The clips are on the inside. I rebuilt the front shaft on mine a couple days ago.
