Steel cable is no more capable than it ever was, synthetic on the other hand improves and has improved by leaps and bounds comparatively and it started out with a higher breaking strength for the same diameters. And while that may be true...Steel cable is still just as capable as it ever was. Is synthetic rope any more capable, other than breaking strength than cable? If there's scientific proof I am all ears. Change my mind...
.
I don't think capability means what you think it means.I don't need a recap. I've read all the forum posts on this very subject, some quite long...lol. Its a debate that will go on and on. However I will agree...there are qualities that make syn rope the better choice. but if you are talking ONLY whether cable vs rope and one being more capable lets hear it.
All the points like being lighter...it doesn't fly threw the air and kill folks if it breaks...etc etc are moot points when it comes to comparing capabilty between the two.
It’s Groundhog Day...I prefer synthetic because it’s lighter, more versatile, easy to repair, doesn’t draw blood while handling without gloves when it’s got broken wires, and doesn’t get assholes in it. That said, get the M-8000 with wire rope, wear it out, learn all these things firsthand, and then switch to synthetic if you want.I'm really considering buying the warn m8000 for my 01 tj but I noticed there is an m8000-s with synthetic rope. I don't know which is better metal cable or synthetic rope, what are your guys experiences with them?
Expense is the main one. I'd rather see a guy who wheels alone hit the trail with a cheap smittybilt winch and steel cable than do without since that is all he can afford.
Doesnt have to be improved upon. Its stood the test of time and it will still do the same jobSteel cable is no more capable than it ever was, synthetic on the other hand improves and has improved by leaps and bounds comparatively and it started out with a higher breaking strength for the same diameters.
It will do the same job, in the same way that lots of old technology will. It does however, lack the capability or capacity to get better, it is at the pinnacle of its performance.Doesnt have to be improved upon. Its stood the test of time and it will still do the same job
