Weird rattling noise at start-up

My Jeep makes a strange noise at start up......sounds like a rattling noise, like bearings spinning or something. It only lasts for 5-10 seconds then goes away. Jeep drives, steers, and shifts perfectly! Any ideas?

Could be your lifters clattering until they get pumped up with oil.

I’m not a mechanic but it sounds like something is loose until it get hot or gets under a load. Feel around when it’s cool and see if anything is wobbly or loose. Good point about the lifters, hows your oil pressure.

oil pressure is good! The noise doesn’t really sound like a tapping sound...... like I said, it sounds like bearing spinning like maybe something you’d hear by spinning the bearing in a paint can.

Hey Baltimoreed and MutantNinja....I appreciate yalls input and direction. I found a small crack in my exhaust at the backside of my muffler. I’m guessing this is what I’m hearing.

That might be it. Once it gets hot and expands it gets quiet. Jeep on.

Sounds like the very, very common lifter tick issue.
