Engine swap well on it's way; pulled it this weekend. Oil pickup tube tells me everything I need to justify swapping the whole engine instead of just slapping a new head on this thing.

Titan down in Ocala, mostly because i'm within a couple hundred miles and can just drive down there and don't have to mess with freight and core return.
Let us know how that engine works out for you. I’m contemplating whether I’m going to do my rebuild or if I’m going to buy a reman engine. I’ve heard horror stories from reman motors, but you never hear the good stories. I’m fixing to hit 200,000 miles and she’s running great but I’ll run her till she dies.
Here's hoping. 2 months into first Jeep and i'm failing coolant exhaust gas tests and swapping engines. Good luck has to strike eventually. If nothing else, i'm adding to my RockAuto magnet collection!
Seriously? All the bits I could find on the internet said 8-12 mm new for those pads. That being the case I will toss the new shoes on the shelf for when they are needed and that makes the job I put off for a day a lot less hassle. Thanks!
Friction layer on the new shoes I have here is 4.3mm or .169"
fan resistor swap out, ironically nailed the replacement item w/same mfg codes as the oem. Time to get out for a proper test drive

How did you know this was going bad? Unlike the older ones, these seem harder to diagnose. Do they melt too?

I did not have fan position 1 & 2 working when i bought the Jeep. Only 3 & 4 worked. As you can see there was no physical evidence of issues, and i think the resistors are series but if your having a similar problem it was like $12 from Rockauto.
Started going after the AC clutch... wondering if the rebuilt alternator is making noise too. New one should be here Wednesday night.

Thanks Tim. First time rebuilding an engine so I’m just taking my time and making everything better than it started out. I’m just hoping it runs when I get it all back together lol I’ve slowly been getting this rust bucket to a decent solid Jeep.
Your saga has brought to mind the Harley guys building motors on the coffee table in the living room.
I miss my VW days and ease of swapping a new engine. They used to be cheap and accessories were everywhere just like Jeeps.
I’m ready for spring so I can get outside and get it all finished. Either that or I need to replace my glass coffee table with a sturdy wooden one lol
You don't need a new table, you just need a piece of 5/8" plywood to cover and protect the glass. I like the thicker wood because it's strong enough to hang over and give you a bigger work area.

I usually like to turn the key way up less chance it will fall out of there. Check inside the clutch for any additional shims, I would start with what’s there that usually works.
pulled an ice house off the lake and found out i have a bad fueling issue was losing fuel like crazy rough idle and eyes burning in the cab. ordered some ntk upstream o2 sensors and few other things.
