Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ engine mounts

What did you do to your TJ today?

Seem to be haemorrhaging money at the moment ..first the clutch then a smashed headlight.
So now I have two new Hella headlights and went for a whiter bulb the Phillips extreme vision plus +150 .
Made a huge difference driving home from Work last night.

Changed the oil for the first time in probably too long. Oil filter came off without a fight, I always dread that. And then realized I was a quart short. Le sigh.

Then investigated my cable shifter. I know it's supposed to be the cats pajamas or whatever, but I've had my share of disagreements with 4LO & even 4HI since I installed it. I may start a thread on those troubles.

Then I toyed around further with an idea I had a year ago but sort of forgot about. The basic premise is that there is actually quite a bit of space between the gauge cluster and the bezel, and with the proper knowledge of conic sections, I believe you can notch it out just so to allow for a gauge pod to sit recessed in there. I didn't realize that I had it this close to usable, although I'm pretty sure it can sit down even further to get even more out of your line of sight. But as it is, it's pretty well out of the way. I know other people have mounted them elsewhere with good results, I'm taking the road less traveled.

Here's the current iteration of the notch:

And then the somewhat mirrored trim of the gauge pod:

And then with it very tenuously set in place:

And then loaded with a gauge, more or less as you would see it whilst driving:

Young kids who like to scare you from behind? Asshole friends who like to prank? Trying to hide something from the wife/gf?

Come on - you've got to share what's up with the mirror... Who are you afraid is behind you when you're working at the bench? :D

So many questions....
Why do you deserve answers to any of them ??
And life moves on....

Rabid raccoons are rampant in FL and sneak up on you. You can't be too careful. I was attacked by one years ago. The bastards bite and claws hurt almost as much as the rabies shots you HAVE to have. The shots are much better these days with modern medicine advancements. I'll take my chances with my opossum (Pete).

Is that the German spelling? ;)

Are LED lights street legal in NZL? Much better option IMO.

Yes LEDs are legal in NZ…and yes much better . But I like the look of the original style headlights.
For me LEDs look too modern for a TJ.
Plus twice the price of the setup I have

Looks great as usual. (y)
p.s. TJs aren't modern? I wasted $40 on my LED headlights for my old ass Jeep. :(
p.p.s. Covid restrictons pic. Even my skeleton had to wear a mask back then.

That’s pretty cool - love the idea. Could you have gone deeper?

You can get LED H4 bulbs for the Hella housings. I had some from Beamtech for a while but now have some Auxbeam F22 series bulbs. Lenses still look TJ-like but the light is better. They do have the cool white look when on though.

This is my setup - Beamtechs in the Hella housings. The Beamtechs are so much better than anything else I've ever seen, that I haven't (yet) bothered to change them out to the Auxbeams that came out later. The Beamtechs are fantastic on low, a bit "splatty" on high, so there is room for improvement there. Either way, you have GLASS headlites, the way the Gods intended.

Probably. I need to pull my cluster or find a new one to know for sure. I also discovered that the bezel i'm cutting on doesn't have the back tabs to screw it down, so what I have is even more beta than I realized.

In a more perfect world I could 3D scan the bezel & gauge pod, and then work a little cad magic to either (a) show me the exact cut to make or (b) just 3D print the whole thing in one seamless package. I see a world where you could fit several/many across the top. If recessed low enough, it wouldn't be in your line of sight. For my purposes, I plan to install a kill switch(es) in the event it causes night vision problems.

Air bags and off-road do not mix(lol)recently we made the trip to Colorado and did trails,I have airlift bags to help the springs when the rack and tent are on.i didn’t make the holes in the lower perches big enough and was constantly rubbing holes in the lines.well got home and blew it apart and going to try and open these holes up to 1 3/4 installing desk plug grommets (lol)should have plenty of room now.

Oh ok...everyday is a school day thanks guys.
I was told that my glass Hella H4 reflectors were not made for LED's so it won't direct the LED light properly....I'll look into the Beamtech stuff when the bulbs I just bought die.

I agree on the Beamtech high beams. That’s why I decided to try the Auxbeam’s. I got flashed a time or two at first with the Auxbeams because they have more lumens or something like that that. I aimed them down just a tad and haven’t been flashed since. High beams have a better pattern for sure. I think if I had gotten the F15 series I may not have been flashed because they have a little less lumens.

I want to try these from summit, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-rp22677 I saw the pre-prod version @Kevo1966 (the guy who developed the seat foam) had on his rig and I liked them.
