They did that to make you think your RMS and valve cover gaskets were fine. "Must just be from when I changed the oil and it dumped out of the filter".

yes it gets oil all over the place - plus it's too high from underneath and too low from up top - for me, at least
I've thought about putting on a right angle adapter, but that would probably make it harder to get at.

Rebuilt the spare valvebody and installed a TransGo SSV repair kit. Then had the "fun" of swapping it out. (It was not fun..) Got a diff cover from a buddy, that he never used, so threw it on. The axle still had the factory gasket on it and looked like the fluid has never been changed. (#%$*!) So I had to clean and inspect it all. Three days of driving and no issues as of yet.

if only I had a forklift to lift up the passenger side so the oil flows out of the filter and back into the motor

Try one of these. The last 2 or 3 times I’ve changed my oil, I didn’t get any on anything but the funnel and drain pan. I crack the filter loose until it’s almost all the way off and starts draining and let it sit while I do other things. Then remove it (from the bottom) the rest of the way, holding the open end up until I get it down to the drain pan.
So much cleaner.

So put it on upside down like a Subaru. Needs a rim under it to catch the drips. One (only?) thing Subaru did right.
A top loading cartridge as appears on the old MBZ would be fabulous.
They also made the hood fold all the way back to the windshield like Jeeps because they knew you'd be pulling the engine to change plugs.

Naw ... , you just change the plugs when the engine is out because the heads and cylinders have eroded from cavitation to the point the head gaskets fail .
VW built air cooled engines were reliable and didn't even have head gaskets . Only Subaru could screw up water cooling and head gaskets , I am not a fan .
Friday I took advantage of being off of work 4 hours early with nice weather and installed my new MasterTop wrap-around windjammer and tonneau cover combo. Loving the twill, the zipper to connect them, and how easy they both installed even after a week in the cooler temps of my basement.
Today I removed the doors, installed my second set of OEM style mirrors using DieTech mounts, and then this afternoon finished the proto-type build for my door cart. Needs some refinement, but feels better having the doors on a cart inside rather than sitting flat outside.

What I did not do ....... wrap headers and fab a heat shield for the jeep. I keep procrastinating because it is 100 degrees outside, and I am kicking myself for not doing it when I installed the headers. Vapor lock of death at the stop lights.
