Currently regearing my Dana 35, and inside it are these o-ring things just outboard of where the carrier bearings and shims go on both sides. I tried to pull one out and it tore, it feels like they're made of RTV.

I didn't see anything mentioned in the FSM about seals like this. Does anybody have any ideas what they are and why they're there?

Inner axle seal. They will punch out if you hit them from the other side with a driver

Thanks, I figured it was something along those lines, just wanted to be sure.
Hey was wondering if you ended up replacing it with rtv and how? The way i see it is its just gonna make a big mess and end up getting chewed up anyways? I dont see how to make it clean like factory

That's just excess RTV Stephen, what you can see is not actually the RTV which is sealing the axle shaft tube when it gets inserted into the axle housing.
