Don’t forget “Buick” and “Odd Fire!” That thing was a killer engine. With headers and side pipes, it had a very unique sound.

A friend of mine had a 304 V8 in his. Not sure of the details but it was noticeably quicker and stronger than mine. Mine was totally stock except for the Meyers package which included a plough and metal half cab and full doors. It was the only top and doors I had! What I made in the winter pretty much got me through college. I was too broke to afford a camera so no pics. It looked like this one except that it had a red grill, white top, doors and wheels and a yellow plough ... and no racing strip or thankfully "Mickey Mouse" ear lights on the top.

That's exactly how I had my '66 with the Buick 225. Headers, Glasspacks and turnouts. No pipe. At an idle it had a great thump thump rumble kind of sound. Maybe why I can't hear so good now...

My brother had a '67 Commando with the same set up. It was a bit loud.
 
1969 Jeepster Commando. Straight 6 225, 3 speed, locking front hubs, hard top and soft top. Purchased in 1983 for $500 235k miles, sold in 1985 for $525. Painted lower section, left white parts white.

1979 CJ5, V8, full time 4 WD, 36" monster mudder, had it for about 2 years, 3 transfer cases, has to sell it.

1992 Wrangler, 4.0 4WD, all stock, 125k miles.
 
2005 LJ, took possession of it at just after 11pm on May 4, 2023. As it looked a few minutes after rolling of the carrier from Texas...

Family and friends have owned them going back decades, but this is a first for me. Had the opportunity to purchase a Jeepster Commando when I was 16 and passed, I've regretted that decision more than once since...

1998 Cherokee Sport 4.0

My brother got it for helping a guy move because it wasn't running right. He fixed it with one part in the parking lot and drove it home. 15 year old me fell in love with it and he gave it to me a few months later for my first car. Unfortunately, only had it for a few months before it was totalled when I was caught in the middle of a 4 car wreck (not at fault) driving home from school.
 
87 YJ (first car @ 16) to 78 CJ5 to 83 Scrambler to current 04 LJ

Kinda wish I could have them all back, and would take the YJ back if given the chance. But I do love my LJ.

Straight 6 in the Commando? I believe those came with the Buick 225 Dauntless Odd-Fire V6, but not positive. Very cool Jeep though.
 
I remembered one the other day that I'd forgotten about. I was a Marine brat as a kid and my Dad was stationed at Camp Pendleton for several years. Mama would carry us to the Navy Hospital there (my brother had some health issues early on) and they had a little sandbox playground there and right in the middle of it was an old Navy grey flatfender Jeep sitting on the the axles for kids to play on. Every time we'd go there, I'd be on that old Jeep turning the steering and moving the shift levers about, pretending I was on some big adventure. That started my love of Jeeps.
