Why not a lunchbox in the rear?

Lunchbox in the front Dana 30 is a solid mod. Reading up on them, they seem to be good for the rear too, and there is some evidence people install them in their rear TJ Dana 35’s. I’ll be in my Dana 44 soon, and I’m just wondering, why not do a lunchbox in the rear. I’m specifically thinking about the PowerTrax No Slip

Lunchbox lockers are physically small so they aren't as strong which is important for the rear axle which is usually receiving the most torque. Also, because the rear differential sees torque 100% of the time when on pavement, rear mounted lunchbox lockers are very poorly behaved since they are under load all of the time. That makes it very hard for them to unlock during turns. Front lockers are under no load when you're in 2wd on the street so they unlock readily enough during turns that they're either completely or barely noticeable.

If the carrier doesn’t have any known problems I would think it would be fine.

I’ve recently done some reading up on them as well, and every article I found (almost) said exactly what Jerry did. If your Jeep will only be for the trail, go for it. But a trail/DD Wrangler will not be happy. Just don’t take any turns lol.

Before I knew any better, I put one in the rear of an old pickup I had years ago. Like Jerry said, they don't unlock all that well in the rear and in a sticky situation on the road, it can be very, very hazardous....especially on wet roads. ask me how I know LOL
