Winching bumper/winch combo opinions, recomendations?

I like the idea of the stock bumper actually! I might start with that option without cutting it (I have stock size wheels and tires, no clearance issues).

The winch:
The cheapest used, beat up warn 8274 I could find on CL was $500 minus the repairs. It is also the heavier of them all, so I might keep this option as a backup.
The superwinch being slow and the clutching issue that was mentioned, somehow makes want to get a different one, lol, so I might go for the engo, warn plate and stock bumper option for now.

I paid 190 for my bumper (of amazon) and with coupons and sales, got my winch for about 400 bucks (smittybilt X20 Comp) from 4wd.com. All Chinese crap, but they work for me. The bumper seems well made, the winch operates smoothly and looks to be well built.

Nothing wrong with using the factory bumper/plate/winch combo. For a "budget" winch the Engo has many positives from those that use them. I haven't had a chance to use mine, other than just goofing around with it. Synthetic line will save you 30 lbs vs steel cable on the front end, just fyi.

I havn't used an engo but the few users I've talked to say good things.

As to smittybilt, one of the shops around here won a JK from keystone years ago and it came with a smittybilt winch. The general manager is a big warn fan but the owner said he couldn't put one on till the smittybilt died. He's been trying to kill the smittybilt for 4 or 5 years now with no success... Makes it a valid option in my books. The trick with an 8274 is to wait till one pops up for the price you want to pay, otherwise forget it.

here is my bumper. I got it on eBay for about 250. It’s been great so far. It has places to attach lights. I can post the link when I find it.

Here is the stock bumper with a raised winch plate and a super winch 8500. I got the winch, the raised plate and the roller fair lead for less than $500 through amazon.

I really like AtoZs winch plate, made in PA. A stock bumper, the winch plate and a Warn M8000 would be a good option if made in America parts are important to you. I swapped out cable for a TRE synthetic line to save a few lbs.

Love AtoZ fab... plate looks great. I’m going to ask Santa for a superwinch and an AtoZ plate to replace the smittybuilt heavy weight I currently run... or should I saw run in because it doesn’t spool out. Hahah

Boom! Can't wait to install it. Allen's Offload has the absolute best price on the Engo winches and accessories.

The "Made in USA" does matter to me and I am sure, the plate is! and if I buy a bumper from a local maker it will be too. I do have doubts about the Warn winch being made here. I am pretty sure the parts in it are mostly made in China and the entire winch is probably assembled there too... am I wrong? Is it still fully manufactured and assembled in US? ... talking about the newer warn winches not the good old 20, 30 year old ones.

How did you get that hole in the fender, on the driver side??

After seeing some of the pictures I realized that some winch/plate combos block the grill quite a bit. Do you guys see and impact on the engine cooling as a result, say on a hot day or on prolonged climbs?
