Serviced the lower MC arms. The duraflex bushings, which are nothing more than a rubber bushing, were dry but in good shape. I’ll do the uppers later. In the meantime I removed the transfer case and got into it. I think the problem is the outer bearing in the JBSSSYE outer housing. See what you think.

The metal looks like aluminum shaved off from pressing the bearing in not straight.
Curious what is the brand of bearing?

I've been replacing quite a few bearings on my trencher project...ebay NOS american bearings.

No idea the brand. No markings I could see.

I think you found the culprit, I had a feeling that it was a bearing just couldn’t tell which end of the DS it was on. I used to have a ‘57 2 dr hard top in the 70’s that would go through front wheel bearings, it would sound like that in a turn.

Front and back of case and housing are all cleaned up ready for RTV. Just need the bearing so I can put this big guy back together!

Here’s what my MC rear lower CA Duroflex Bushings looked like, for those who would like to see. What’s crazy is these are just rubber bushings in my estimation.

Before and after I cleaned them up.

They got a big ball center in them bonded to the rubber. Leaving just a smidge of grease in those valleys should do. A skim coat on the high spots is all that won't be scraped off putting it back in.

I'm crossing my fingers that this was all it was. Easy enough fix and no damage is always a good thing.

The most common failure point I've seen on those is the ball liberating itself from the bushing rubber. Yours has some cracking, but still looks unitized.

mine ripped.
once i got it free from the casing and messed with the rubber, the center dropped out clean. the bonding doesn't seem to be the best.

i wouldn't use the ones visibly cracked...that crumbling is dry rot........... they were like 20$ea last time i looked.

I searched and called JB conversions about 30 times today. He finally called me back. I wanted the part # for the bearing. He said it was 6207N. I started calling bearing places. The 5the one asked me more questions about the bearing. 6207N is not a complete #. They didn’t have the bearing, but they directed me to McGuire Bearing and they went through the same spill of questions to identify further numbers of the actual part. The extra numbers relate to snap ring and sealing. The sealed version is easily unsealed with a pick.

The worker confirmed that the heat indication in the bearing probably evidenced that two of the bearings sieved.

The new bearing is tapped in. Snap ring secured. Case back together. Tera Low, 4:1 continues…It’s a good mod. The product is reliable and I believe supported till 2018. This problem was not with that part.
