As I read your second sentence I hit the Reply button to say that teaching math is what changed not math itself. Then I read the rest of your post which is spot on but I'll still finish this post with math in schools is all about the so-called educators feelings not facts like math.

Don’t forget the changes in our economy which have made it difficult for a family to sustain itself on one income. With both parents having to work full time, I think it created an ideal situation for the state to step in and raise their kids.

Those are the results of the Cultural Revolution in large part. We have similar wages going to households…. It just went from 1 to 2 over a 40 year span.

Nothing against women working at all…. But the realities of the shift in the workforce didn’t create more money, opportunity or wealth…. It just distributed it differently.

Part of the solution for businesses was greased by Globalism and the offshoring of large portions of our manufacturing.

This is huge. We've gone from most small children being cared for by someone who loves them to shoving them in daycare.

I don’t believe that. People live outside their means.

How do I know. Married 7 years no kids. Never had money. We were always outside our means. Two adults both full time employed.
After that divorce. My wife and I married. We have five kids. She has been a stay at home parent for the entire 13 years. Living off of just my paycheck while paying alimony and ex wife’s car payment.

Instead of buying the big beautiful house where we all had our own rooms. Each bedroom had two beds. We had two nice used cars.

We ate at home 85% of the time.

Think about how much of the spouses paycheck goes into paying to not have to raise their child.

Families live outside their means. It’s not society. It’s a personal choice.
