05 TJ getting 7 mpg

Where sensors are concerned, it's really best to remain with the OEM brand which is Mopar except for the O2 sensors where it's NTK or NGK who made them for Mopar. Avoid store brand sensors like the plague.
Thanks Jerry, I've used mopar sensors for everything else. The TPS sensor OEM is sold out everything close to me up here in Canada, and I don't want to pay $80 in shipping for an $80 part. But I guess I should be a good little jeep owner and bite the bullet I guess.

I don't see the TPS causing your mpg issue. See my #40 post just above.

You're absolutely certain you installed the right p/n's for the upstream O2 sensors and they were Mopar/NGK/NTK?
Yes, straight from the stealership, the wire lengths matched the sensors I took off. They were NTK. I don't have the boxes anymore as I threw them out. But I matched the PN to the NTKs on other websites like rock auto, ect. They are indeed the proper sensors. And the plugs were Mopar brand ZF something that were NTK, nickel, from the stealership aswell

I'm not super familiar with resistances but I checked the wires on it and the only readings that changed when I engaged the sensor with a flat head screwdriver was 4.28 at closed and 4.40 at open. Not sure if I had the voltmeter set wrong. But every video I've seen on YouTube says that's the wrong threshold for this sensor.

The way to test a TPS is by using the Ohmmeter (resistance) setting on a multimeter. Disconnect the Jeep's connector to the TPS. Connect the meter across the middle and outer connectors of the TPS then watch the Ohmmeter while you turn the DPS input shaft. Look for a smooth resistance change as you turn its input shaft. Erratic/sudden resistance jumps as you turn its input shaft indicate a bad TPS.

However, I'm still not believing a bad TPS would cause your abysmal mpg problem.
 
had to look it up but 30km is 18 miles :eek: shit you better look for a hole in your tank or your dumping gas out the exhaust pipe ! you need to pull your sparkplugs and look with a boroscope to see if you have any pistons. if the pistons are there you need to pull your head because your valves might be gone. 18 miles to a 1/4 tank, you aren't even getting 7mpg more like 3 or 4. are you releasing your parking brake ? sorry but I just dont see it getting that kind of mileage and it still keep running. maybe someone stuffed a bath towel in your intake. have you recently pranked someone and there getting even ? we had a guy at work who bought a new truck and was boasting about the great mileage he was getting, after a few weeks we couldn't stand it and started siphoning about 3 gals out of his tank every week. man he started complaining about how he must have a brake dragging and was taking it in to the dealer to have it checked out. after that we dumped 3 gals a week back in and he said they fixed it, it's even better than before ! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: it was a few weeks before someone told him, we all had a good laugh !
 
The speedometer isn't reading correctly, like I said, it doesn't have the right tooth count so it's off. Hence why I was using Google maps.
well its easy enough to get a rough calculation of how fur it's off. get on a highway with mile markers. reset your odometer to 0. drive preferably until it shows 10 miles. and check compared to the MM's . if you've gone 11 miles your off about 10%. then when you go to calculate use mileage + 10% divided by gallons. also then if your speedo is at 60mph your real speed is about 66mph.

Jerry do you think it's possible his injectors are not spraying a fine mist, maybe just a stream of fuel and causing that bad of mileage ?
 
I would doubt it, our injectors have proven to be pretty darned reliable and rare to clog too.

Really. If I can't kill an injector by dumping a gallon of water and other assorted crap into the gas tank and running it until it absolutely wouldn't run, the injectors are pretty tough.
 
Doing O rings on mine with baskets next week. Lots of reading on here suggests possible vacuum leak, or just maintenance because just old.

What are baskets? I put new o rings on mine when I put my new motor in the other day. Old ones were pretty stiff and stuck to the point where half of them stayed in the head when I pulled the injectors out

Mini Filters are on the top of the injector so I hope. Maybe I'm wrong . The kit has them. Jeeps are new to me, but my Foxbody had them
 
I've never seen them on a Wrangler TJ engine the couple I had removed & replaced injectors in.
yea you wont notice the micro filters if your only replacing them. they get replaced on a rebuild. i just finished rebuilding some on my outboard. @Weman823 you might give it a go the rebuild kits are real cheap and it's simple to do. i soaked mine overnight in injector cleaner then reassembled them. i'll see if i can find the video showing how to do it. the rebuild kit for 6 of mine was $27, looked on ebay and the kit for a 4.0 is under $20

Thats the kit....Did them on my Mustang. Soaked them like Jerry, and worked great. Actual dirt in all baskets. The basket screens are known to crumble over time.

I mean even if the OP's numbers are 1/2 his actual number, 1/4 tank is approx. 4gals and if his 30km is actually 60 it would be 36 miles, he's still only getting 9mpg :eek: unless he's running 44's or his bed is filled with lead I just cant fathom that !

I’ve also been getting awful gas mileage (up to 9.5 mpg) with 4.10s & 35s.

- new precats / no third cat
- flashed PCM
- NTK 02 sensors

I hope things improve some after the regear to 5.38s. I would do a backflip if I got over 14 mpg.

is your speedo calibrated and if not are you adjusting for it with your 35's ?

No it’s not calibrated. I’ve only been going off of the dial for logging my distance travelled.

Edit: should I be adding 14.75% to my distance travelled?

(35/30.5= ~14.75%)
