LCoG and long arm lifts

You won't find any long arm setups that don't compromise the suspension geometry. That includes Clayton and Teraflex. Basically, where lifted short arms create high antisquat and result in hopping during steep climbs; long arms due to their control arm mounting locations result in too low of an antisquat. This causes the rear end to sink during a steep climb which shifts weight of the front and the front wheels to come off the ground. One problem is addressed while creating another.

Separate from that is the flawed LCoG build philosophy that pretends to solve a non existent problem of stability through performance compromising restrictions to the suspension.

Hopping? SInking?

;)

Since you are looking for suggestions, the savvy midarm is the best suspension kit you can get for your LJ. There are no bad habits or compromises. It’s fantastic on the street and it climbs and stays balanced super well on the trails.

Haters are going to hate, but this is the truth.

New guy here,

Not new to Jeeps, just out of touch with the current aftermarket offerings.

Long arm kits, what are the preferred vendors these days vs. 10 years ago?

My TJ was homebrewed on 3 inch Full Tracrion springs, Bilstein 5150 shocks, 1 inch body lift, currie MML, and a GoFerIt off road tummy tuck, Poison Spider Rocker Knockers, and Warn gas tank skid.

I'd like to do a similar low COG setup, long armed on my LJ.....with Higline type fenders.
I am open to suggestions as I am in the planning stages. Probably will go 35 or 37 inch tire (with an appropriate front axle build/replacement).

Thank you!
Augie

Welcome aboard Augie,

If I just bought a new to me LJ the first thing I would do is call Mark at WranglerFix and get back up PCM and I would also get ahold of Precision Machine and get one of their OPDA, crank sensor and cam sensor setups. I would only start with lift kits and big tires if I also had the money for a big brake kit from Blaine and money to re-gear. Shock are going to really important also don't cheap out on shocks.

I guess what I am saying is first make sure you have a good reliable LJ with all the know mechanical issues addressed and only start your build when have budget to complete it without compromise.

I see what you did there.

I've ran the Clayton long arm kit on 2 different TJ's and had great experiences with both. I've run Currie / Savvy short arms on at least 5 TJs and loved each of those as well. I wouldn't remove either of them to switch for the other. I've also had good luck with Rockkrawler and a few of my friends wheel with their long arm set ups with no issues where we wheel. (East Coast) One of our friends runs the Savvy mid arm kit and loves it. If I had the money to do it all at once starting with a bone stock Jeep the Savvy Mid arm is the lift kit I would buy.

Ok.....I am having trouble logging in from a computer.
I am going to try and answer everyone without quoting.

@Chris , When I built my TJ in the early 2000s, at the time it was a thing to be LCOG. I am trying to learn and was starting the conversation based on my previous experiences and what worked well for that TJ at that point in time.

@P man , thank you. I am using my gf's computer to read the post and answer on my phone......she got internet offended on the "tone" of some responses. I talked her down. Lol

@jjvw , thank you, again it was a build done prior to 2010.....and THANK YOU FOR THE DOG PIC AND PAT ON THE HEAD!

@L J , Thanks.....I love it. I got it in 2018.

@jjvw (Again)......I will look at the Savvy setup. I don't mind a small BL if it fits and has purpose.

@RINC Thanks! My prior build experience knowledge is (clearly...lol) outdated. That's why I'm asking here. I have wheeled in Ohio, at Paragon and Rausch Creek in PA and rescues on private land to save a friend at 2am in NNJ.

@Jerry Bransford prior build experience applied to an LJ, I remember how that Jeep did and the compliments I got on it and thought I could apply the same thought process.
Thank you.

@starkey480 I am going to dig in and research that. Thanks!

@Lightning Thank you! So I've had the LJ for 5 ish years now, I had to rebuild the transmission and replace the PCM (through wranglerfix) already. I have "extra vehicles" now and can do this....I think.

@Necro I am in Northern NJ. I actually called Clayton years and years ago when I was going to take the next step on my Tj to have them install it.....they were that close to me at the time.
Also, I doubt he remembers, but I spoke directly with Jeremy at Rockkrawler (had a connection through 4Wheel Drive Hardware) and we discussed suspensions.
Thank you!

And finally, if I missed anyone.....

Thank you for your input. It's why I've stayed with Jeeps and in the off road community (or kept coming back) since 2003 or so.

If your gal friend was offended by these responses tell her to wait there's more!!!

Seriously though this has been tame and organized compared to most long arm topics
