Here is a pic of my front bumper. So I am wondering is there is a benefit to a stubby bumper. I was thinking about cutting this bumper down to make a stubby bumper. Is there are real benefits to a stubby bumper. I'm not really a fan of the long bumpers but if the benefits don't outweigh the current setup i will leave it as is. 20170421_173707 (1).webp
 
IMO, the way yours slopes up on the ends pretty much has the same effect as a stubby. I believe most use the stubby so the bumper does not get in the way of tires being able to grip, mostly rock-crawler type rigs. Depending on what you use your Jeep for, I don't think you would gain anything by going stubby. That being said, it's up to you what you want. I had a stubby on my JKR previously owned, and it was a great bumper. They do have a function, though, and if you like the look go for it!

A lot of TJ owners run the bumper you have...I don't know where you would cut that to make it a stubby, though.

That's the same bumper I have. The tapered ends give you the function of getting out of the way for your front tires. I say keep it. I wouldn't change a thing. If I were to go to a true stubby, I'd get this one from Motobilt with the built in winch plate, made in the USA, $249

Whether you would benefit from turning that bumper into a stubby depends entirely on how often you place the front of the Jeep up against something so steep or vertical as to cause the bumper to come in contact first and prevent the tire from having as much contact as it could, thus making some climbs impossible. I personally don't believe the front bumper has much to do with protecting the fenders.

I meant with DD type stuff, someone back into you or if you are doing some mild off road stuff with small trees and limbs.

yea, I'm talking about on the trails. Im not in a hurry for this , and so far ive not been on anything steep where the bumper has contacted or kept me from climbing. But I would hate to be going through a ditch and climbing a dirt bank or over a fallen tree and the bumper keep me from making contact with my tire.
Now for everyday use its perfect as is. probably be best thing to do would be to buy a stubby and not cut the one I have.
But it would be fun to do ha,
If yall have a pic of your bumpers could you post them?
 
I’m not sure how that bumper would look if it was stubby... personally I’ve grown to really like the look of stubby bumpers.

When I had the stock bumper on mine I cut it to be a stubby and loved it. Now i have the same biker on mine as the op and love it too. I’ve never needed anything more that what it offers

Do you have a pic stock bumper cut?
 
The stock can work well as a stubby as per ^^^

Don't be gettin' bikers on your bumper. Law enforcement frowns on that. :eek:

I cut my stock front bumper down to 46" when I went to 35's. There are plenty of places in the Southwest where I can stick my front tires up against rocks and, while my bumper is a little long to be considered a true stubby, cutting a bit off the ends has allowed me to take lines I might otherwise have had to pass up to avoid damage to the bumper (I'm not too worried about damaging the MC Overline fenders, aside from scraping off some paint every once in a while).

Nice, do you have a front shot of the bumper? The more I see stubby stock bumpers the more I wanna to cut mine, lol.
