What did you do to your TJ today?

Well crap. The harmonic balancer wouldn't come off the rear shaft. Using the 3 bolts didn't work. One broke but enough stuck out that I got it.

I'm going to get a bigger puller tomorrow. Any specific snap ring pliers I should get while I'm at the store?

Get yourself a M6 x 1.0 thread chaser. The first time I tried to get it off, the bolts started twisting.
Ran the thread chaser through it, not a tap, a thread chaser, and then the bolts threaded in with zero problem, and the balancer popped right off

Both seats are in. And I was able to finish running the antenna cable for the new GMRS. After a couple different tries I ended up just buying a magnetic heavy duty amount and sticking the antenna on the front fender.

Trying to fix ignorant on my part. I read a few places to get good "lock ring" pliers instead of "snap ring" pliers. Is there a difference other than what some folks call them? Link to "good" ones vs "cheap" ones? I ask because I have this job in my future too.

I have a set you can use when you get to that point

Finished complete rebuild of front steering and suspension on my 1998 TJ with 208K miles. Started trying to fix bump steer and looseness and wandering. Disassembled the front end down to axle tubes and pitman.
1) Removed track bar and track bar bracket
2) Replaced drop pitman arm with Moog OEM replacement (440029)
3) Replaced all ball joints (Spicer 40583 x 2, 40916 x 2) 1 old ball joint was sloppy, 1 other loose.
4) Replaced axle ujoints (Spicer 5-760x x 2)
5) Replaced Hub/Bearings (Timken 513084 x 2)
6) Replaced brake backing plates and installed Dorman brake line extensions (H622066, H622065)
7) Replaced ~3” lift, tired unidentified coil springs with new, Teraflex 4”.
8) Replaced upper and lower control arms with adjustable (core 4x4 tier 2). Flipped lowers so Johnny joint is at frame after picture below taken
9) Installed New MOOG drag link(DS1430), tie rod ends x2(ES3096L), ZJ upgrade solid tie rod (DS1312), adjustment sleeves x2(ES2079S)
10) installed adjustable track bar (RC7572)
11) Greased all zerks with Lucas tacky red. Adjusted steering, toe-in and castor as close as I could.
Now ready to take to a good alignment shop.
I love how it drives now-no bump steer, solid tracking/steering on uneven roads, rocky ranch roads and highways.

Actually lock ring pliers would be best for working on the NP231.

This one would be a good bet:

Got another shipment of Jeep parts. I see a lot of fabrication in my near future. Everything from Taboo Customs looks to be of really good quality. I still need to get another front coil spring / bump stop repair kit but the one they sent is very heavy duty. Looks to be at least a schedule 80 pipe and 1/4” plate. The roll bar mounting area repair kit is solid too. I have some rust holes in my back floor where the roll bars mount to the floor so hopefully this and the floor pans will make the old girl solid again.

Busy day of Jeep life. Since it’s gorgeous outside I skipped taking a nap (which I’ll regret at 4am when I’m getting off work) to work on my engine. I got the main bearings in and fitted the crankshaft. There is no lateral play that I can see and it spins really smoothly by hand so I’m pretty happy with that. I also got the camshaft lubed up and installed. It went in without a hitch as well. I was going to stop there but figured why not put the gears on for the timing setup then I wouldn’t have to worry about the camshaft sliding around and scratching something up. I got the timing set and put the new gasket and freshly painted cover on then I installed the new harmonic balancer. I made a good bit of progress today.

man you should make your own build thread. You have documented a lot of the steps so far!

Got started on installing my sub...riv nuts, a dab of RTV and some neoprene washers. I depinned the high side connectors since I don't need them. I really should replace the cherry bomb and buy a bedrug to put over the bedliner...but just making the stereo louder feels right. Almost got done and got called into work...boss man wrecked his truck on the pass and needed me to cover a shift.

Mac, this is a little close up so I can't tell. Where are you installing this? I'd like to see more pics and info on the rest of your system.

I just followed the recipe others have posted. Rockville 400w sub. My only deviation might be installing it behind the passenger seat because I have a Tuffy drawer under my driver seat. That and most posts on this sub glossed over how they were mounted...I used riv nuts through the tub and RTV.

My biggest concern with the Rockville sub is it's lack of any waterproofing. I live in the PNW and it can get wet in the cab...I've had a solid half inch of water sloshing around from melted snow before I pulled the drain plugs.

That and when I pull the top come spring...

I didn’t mount my amp on the floor for that reason. I run the top down or windows off 95% of the time because that’s what brings me the most joy. Water gets in every now and again and I simply wipe the floor down when it happens.

New rear floor pans showed up today and I got my second ever Mopar part today too lol It’s like Christmas for my Jeep lately. I also bought some angle iron and and some flat bar steel to try to fabricate an attachment for my engine hoist to be able to use it for hard top removal. I saw some pictures of one for JK so I’m going to make one for my TJ and save my wife the hassle of helping me remove and install it lol
