05' JMT's Twin Teenager's Rubicon Build

Great job on the project. Lots of great things done to the Jeep. Really admire you and the boys relationship in the garage. Neither of mine had much interest in learning what Pop had to share. Thanks for all your efforts documenting all the work.

Thank you! You are kind. I kinda needed a kind word today. This is a frustrating but cool project. It’s already nice. If we can get the frame under control and the rig won’t fall apart in the process I think we have a winner.

🙂

Kaleb went out to remove the TCase Skid so he could clean up the frame, replace the nutserts, and clean up the skid itself. He’s on fire. Looking good!

I need to be pulling the tcase skid for repair soon too. What points did you hold up the transmission at? Must be just outside of the photo?

I always did it just in front of the skid where I had a flat spot to hold it. If I remember correctly it was the bellhousing but it's been a while since I've done it.

Bellhousing. Front of transmission. Just behind oil pan.

Once we found optimal shock travel and sufficient shock body distance from the axle and perch we measured the angle of the bracket, tacked and welded. The other side was easier because we just set it at the same angle, tacked and welded. Actually I’d weld one side of the bracket, then set up the other and welded one side of that bracket, then went back to the other side and so on. This was to allow time for the axle to cool so we don’t warp it.

I came home from Moab to this: a 17 yr old someone had taken over my garage. 🤣

It’s pretty cool to see he’s taking responsibility to do it himself. He’s got to have perfect brakes, so he got new Centric Rotors, new calipers, and new pads. Then he bled the brakes and went out and bedded them in. While I was not happy about the garage being in disarray, it is lookin’ good K!

Is he still mad at you for going to Moab without him?

😬

It's hard to keep all the parts on the tire when you need to remove the tire lol.

Looks like he's doing great! Nice to see he has enough confidence to tackle a project while you're MIA.

Oh, he really wishes he could have gone. Pre-calculus had him tied up. I would have loved for him to go too, but it would have messed up my "2,000 miles for $1,000 trip to Moab." 🤣

He's good company though. I missed that.

You and Kaleb and setting tools and parts on the tire! Drive me crazy.

He is doing great. Really like he has the confidence to tear into it. He's the one who convinced me to get into mine a few months ago. He's a brake fanatic.

Need a rolling bench or cart.
