Buying First Jeep

It may be nothing, but when I was shopping, I was skeptical of every Jeep that had no carpet. I felt that this was likely a sign of a leak somewhere, or that it just hadn't been taken care of so it looked better with no carpet versus ruined carpet.

Now I ended up getting one that had been completely gutted and redone, so it's hard to say. But that was just my view.

I'll agree with others on the 44 rear, I considered it a must. The full doors and soft top is nice. Also, don't forget that something that needs shocks, tires, or minor work might allow you to get in at a much lower price with the opportunity to upgrade to things that you prefer.

I don't know of any TJ that doesn't leak in the rain, especially a soft top. I kind of thought that was the reason for all the floor drain plugs. 🤪

Knock on wood, no leaks for mine so far! I've gone out and checked during/after rain, plus checking while washing. Hopefully it stays that way for a bit 🤞🏼

It is used almost exclusively to hide rust (or some people think it protects but in reality it just accelerates rust by trapping moisture in).

I believe it depends on when it was applied. Mine must have been applied at the factory. Especially, if there are no drips on it. I recently saw another wrangler just like mine. I just wish there was some information about it somewhere, because the only thing the dealership did was install my Mopar light bar about a month after I got my Wrangler. And, I don't see anything listed about it on the build list using my VIN except the many "information unavailable", under some build line items. I am the ORO.

What are you planning to do with it ?? Rust is an issue north of TN. TN, AL, MS, GA and TX all good places to look. IF you find one in TN or AL we will be glad to go take a look for you after you talk to the owner and are somewhat seriously interested. Having a hard top is a real plus. (many do not agree) I would also stay away from the 6 sp in 2005-6 good luck D
