It just happened!

Had to raise the 3rd brake light to accommodate the larger spare tire. Used 3/4' PVC pipe couplers and M8-1.25 x 60mm bolts. Scuffed the PVC connectors and painted them black. It worked perfectly, looks good, and was an inexpensive modification.

Are you able to grab a rear view mirror pic or express how it may affect your view? With my 35" tyre, MORryde set up, I kinda like the stock-ish look this could bring.

Be all like steathly, come on.

I had done a very similar thing to my stock third brake light but the angle of the spacers and the 35 inch tire caused the bottom of the third brake light to hit the glass on my hard top with bumps and whatnot so I ended up doing this… I have the MORyde as well

All I wanted to do was install the spare tire and it turned into a 3 hour job. 😕

First, had to raise the 3rd brake light.

Second, the stock bumper had to come off to get enough clearance room for the larger tire. In went the Mopar Rockcrawler bumper I took off before.

Third, with a stock TJ tire the bracket for my backup camera places the camera at the top.. However, once I put the Wheel adapter on, the JL wheel spoke was in the way. This meant cutting off the bracket part where the camera attached, then flipping and welding it on the bottom. Of course I also had to clean up the bracket and paint it.

All done now!

Tire snubbers make good contact with that spacer on there?

Upon moving to Virginia last year, I had my first encounter with vehicle inspections. I failed because I had removed my 3rd brake light. I used a hole saw on my tire carrier and installed a 2" led marker light behind the hub hole in the wheel. It passed.

I've done the same thing in the past and may do the same here in the future. 👍

What corner armor are you going to use?

Since Savvy isn't available, it will be Genright. I'm also considering getting a piece of aluminum bar-stock and doing a radius bend around the bottom of the tub as extra reinforcement. This might be overkill and will depend on how it looks in the mock up. The thought process is to start at the back of the armor corner and go around to the flare.

Haven't forgotten about you, just haven't had time to pull the Jeep out of the garage and snap a picture or two.

I noticed that Next Venture makes aluminum corners for the LJ. Have you heard of anyone running these? Just curious how the compare to Savvy or Genright.

Both Genright and Next Venture stop short of where the Savvy slider comes to on the tub. I don’t know the exact measurement but it’s close to an inch of gap. NV and GR both stop at the bottom of the door
