What did you do to your other vehicle today?

I gave the Ram 2500 a looking over in preparation for a road trip this weekend. Aired up a bit; checked fluids, belts and hoses, etc.
I was disappointed to see this rust on the rear rotor. The other side isn’t this bad, just sort of black oxidized. I had driven the truck about 10 hours prior so the rust seems excessive, and I recently had an issue with the front caliper seizing, so now I’m afraid the rears are too. I don’t drive much, and in this rig I use the exhaust brake so the brakes have an easy life. I think I need to be greasing them and doing some intentional braking more.
So tomorrow I’ll go for a drive and see if they polish themselves, and if not I’ll be seeing if I can free that piston without needing a trip-jeopardizing brake job. 🙀

I took it for a test drive and rode the brakes a bit. First I put some stripes across the rotors with my kids’ sidewalk chalk (you can see some pink left on the top hat, but the pads wiped the rest clean).
Good news is the brakes are still working and not stuck. But I’m not thrilled with the condition of the rotors or that stripe in the center that is not getting full pad contact. Some rear brake attention is in order … after my road trip. 😬

Traded in the 09 Silverado with the 4.8L and 5 speed auto for a 2020 Ford XLT with a 3.0L V6 turbo diesel and 10 speed auto.

The V6 is about 30 less horsepower than the V8 but 155 lbs-ft more torque. 60 mph and the diesel is ticking over at around 1300 rpm. Surprisingly, Mrs.Cheesy really likes it, too. I was pretty impressed with how quiet the engine is and how nice it rides. And I liked the Chevy, but it struggled with our hotel on wheels. This won't care.

When I retired, I thought I was done washing the diesel pew off my hands.

I'm pretty deep into a repair/rebuild/upgrade on my '07 Harley Ultra.
I've got it torn down for paint, and it's getting close.
New seat should be done any day now, so I grabbed some material from the shop and wrapped my dash/tank bezel.
I think it came out pretty good; it almost looks as if it was molded with this texture.

I probably won't get to it until Saturday but the new cylinder heads came for the Ural today.

Good luck with that — hope you do better than I've managed thus far with the MBZ repair. I have had the $15 part in hand for at least 4 weeks, and it still isn't in because I had other projects that HAD to get done first - plus BOTH other cars had minor problems that needed fixing right NOW in the interim. I'm hoping Saturday I can at least get started - haven't been able to get to it at all this week either due to one thing or another. I have a "big" performance tomorrow, and will be in the salon for several hours plus getting dressed and makeup, blah, blah and getting there and dancing. Just to make it interesting, our leader has badly jacked her back and I'm not sure what's gonna happen.

Picked up takeoff new tacoma shocks, front springs and upper control arms plus bilstein 1.5” lift springs for the rear on my ‘07 4Runner.

Less than $500 into a 2.5” front 1.5” rear lift with quality parts. Hoping to install Sunday.

Installed a new Vtec solenoid and knock sensor in my daily driver RSX to clear up some check engine lights that just popped up.

Driver's side power running board on the wife's '16 expedition is squawking like a seal. Pulled it today. The motor makes a weird clunking sound and the shaft doesn't spin straight. I found a replacement on ebay. should be here next week.

FINALLY got the voltage regulator/brush assembly installed in the old MBZ. The car's been down for about 5 weeks, and I've had the part in hand for 4! Also replaced a turbo wastegate hose that disintegrated at the barb fitting on one end.

New on left, old on right.

Now off to replace the V-belts while I'm working on the thing. It needs a new air filter, and I'm having problems finding one as this intake setup was a one year wonder for Commiefornia cars only. I'll have to call the MBZ classic center on Monday...

The 5 speed MT in the '98 Impreza won't stay in 4th gear at all, and pops out of 5th occasionally when letting off the gas, so I pulled it out today:

Tomorrow, I'll pressure wash it and start the tear-down. I was supposed to be starting on the LJ work, but as usual, a new issue pops up just as I'm finishing the last one. 😔

Replaced the original radiator in my ‘99 Silverado. After 24 years and 180-some thousand miles, she finally cracked one of the plastic tanks. It also had a good size mud daubers nest on it. Replaced it with a Denso radiator.

Step 2 completed today:

So far, most of the gears and synchros look okay, but several of the bearings are so far gone it's a wonder the thing didn't grenade on me! The reason for it popping out of fourth is that the rear bearing on the output shaft had almost a quarter inch of axial play! This seems to be a weak point in this transmission because it's happened twice before, and the spare I bought on car-parts.com years ago has even more axial play...

Hopefully I can still buy parts for this 25 year old transmission!

Nice work. It would seem diagnosis and repair of manuals is a fading art, but its one I'd like to learn.

Got all 4 V-belts changed out on the old MBZ. Not a bad job overall, but it had been several years since I did it last, so blundered around a bit. Mercedes thoughtfully put adjuster bolts on all the accessories which makes things a lot easier than some I've worked on. That's the good news - the bad news is that damn AC compressor is a pain in the derriere! The adjuster is virtually impossible to get at - I remember something about getting a 1/8th turn on it, flipping the open end wrench over and getting another 1/8th, repeat... From below. This time I got smart and made my own tool:

And WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!

Also changed both fuel filters, and will be calling tomorrow about an air filter. Gotta love 1 year wonders...

2.5” front 1.5” rear lift on the 4Runner. Also one caliper was stuck so I had to replace them as well. Stupid Advanced Auto gave one coated one uncoated (wife picked up). Very annoying but had to have it driving tonight so I ran with it.

Bilstein shocks all around and Bilstein rear springs. Made a huge ride quality improvement.
