Bought a 1999 Sahara yesterday. Joined the forum today.

We live just South of Atlanta, drove to Tampa Bay, picked the TJ up and drove 400 miles home. Rotten gas mileage, noisy and rough riding. Just the way we like it.

The TJ is for my wife, so we have named it Barbie. 4.0/AT, AC, 130k, Dana 30/35, pretty much a run of the mill Sahara.

Up first is some minor repairs, maintenance and a good cleaning. I ordered new mirrors, these are worn out. The right taillight doesn't work, due to a hack job installing a 4-pin tow harness, I ordered new taillights and will pull everything apart when they show up.

Second is a double din radio so she can use the phone and have a backup camera.

I like the wheels but do not like the 255-70-18 tires. My Santa Cruz has 245-60-18 tires and I think they would be a better fit on a low rider Wrangler. May have to bump the suspension up a couple inches. I prefer 15" wheels on a TJ, but nice stockers are getting hard to find.

I have owned a 65 CJ5, 68 Wagoneer, 87, 07, 11 Wranglers. I sold the 11 in 12 and have had mostly Fords since then.

The plan is to keep this one mostly stock-ish. I have no plans to do any off roading that is beyond the capabilities of a stock setup.

Nice Jeep and looks like it's in great shape!

Don't just look for Wrangler 15 inch wheels. Cherokee wheels and some Grand Cherokee wheels will fit too. My Jeep is a 2005 and I hated the offset wheels the prior owner had on it. I bought some Jeep alloy wheels off a 1999 Cherokee at a local junkyard. They were in so/so shape so I cleaned them up and shot a few coats of silver paint followed by a few coats of clear. Look great now. Needed 1 more matching wheel for the spare so found the same type of wheel on ebay and bought it. It was in super nice shape so didn't even paint it.

The bolt pattern is 5x4.5 so any 15 inch wheel with that bolt pattern will work.

I have 31 inch tires on my 15 inch rims and like the look a lot. The prior owner installed a small spacer lift. I have driven it on some pretty rough terrain (minor rock crawling) without issue. You can still do some pretty rough terrain with 31s.

Congrats on finding such a nice Jeep and welcome to the forum. My '06 is mostly stock and works just fine as a beach Jeep on Padre Island.

I put those same new Sahara rims on mine with a 2.5” lift

If you were near Chicagoland Id tell you to take my OEM wheels with newer tires. I plan on just tossin em if no one wants em. I have no use for them
