Hi so I have a 98 Chevy 1500 that i ls swapped now I’m thinking of getting the old 350 out of it and putting it in my jeep big ideas only 17. will this work or will it destroy everything because to much power the motor also has a mild cam Danna 30 and 35 that I’m upgrading and putting lockers in what’s y’all thoughts do have a 4.0 with only 70k miles and 5 speed but can hardly do freeway speed which is not enough considering my truck spins tires in 3rd gear 😂

I'll start off with the Legal stuff first... Your 1998 350 isn't legal to swap into your TJ if you drive it on the road. Doesn't matter that you don't have emissions testing in WA. Federal EPA laws say you have to use the same year or newer engine to swap into your rig.

Next is your Dana 35 rear axle. You can get a bellhousing adapter and run your AX15 but your Dana 35 won't live behind the V-8. More than one person who has swapped in a Magnum V-8 has made the Dana 35 live for a while but eventually upgraded to a stronger axle.

The reason you can hardly do freeway speeds is most likely your TJ has 3.07 gearing and you're running 33" tires. If you'd regear to 5.13's you'd be able to use 5th gear again and could hold 70 MPH.

Just like in your 35's & Lockers thread you have to do things correctly and it isn't cheap doing them that way.

Do you think the Jeep 5 speed would hold up or the Dana 30 do have the 4L60E that was in the truck I could use

The AX15 is rated for 300 ft TQ and lives behind Magnum swaps so yes it would.

Cool thanks for your help if my username changes to jeep350 you’ll know lol 😂

Just because you happen to have that engine laying around isn't a good reason to swap it into your Jeep. Once you swap that engine into your rig technically it's illegal to sell it unless as a off-road only vehicle. If you really want to V-8 then do it correctly with a legal swap.

Some things you haven't mentioned or thought about, what gauges are you going to use? You stock gauges off a canbus so you either have to run the stock PCM along with the Chevy PCM or swap in analog gauges.
The Chevy V-8 is TBI setup? While better than a carburetor it still isn't great.

There is a LOT more to swapping engines into our new platform Jeeps than there was in the older 86 & older CJ's.

I would likely use analog and it’s a 350 vortec not tbi but it’s just a thought kinda thinking gear swapping would be better I just wanna be able to cruise on the freeway 5th gear is never used and going up hills is 50 55 mile an hour

Looked at tag and is 3.07

A regear is much cheaper, easier, and would still be needed after an engine swap.

I'm not a Chevy expert but I thought the Vortec was fuel injected in 98? TBI is throttle body injected. TPI is the Tuned Port Injected in the Camero & Corvette.

Even when doing a V-8 swap you have to have the correct gearing to match your tires. Yes a V-8 can overcome the taller tires some but it's still not the answer.

Regear it to 5.13 gears and you'll like your 4.0 a lot more.

Vortec has way better flowing heads and makes like 260 hp and is fuel injected but if I swapped I would swap it to a carburetor but probably gonna regear and see how I like it

I'm sorry but I'll never understand the desire to go from fuel injection BACK to a carburetor. But I grew up tuning carbs and dealing with them flooding on sidehills or steep climbs so I like having fuel injection.

Way easier to hock up then trynna wire the factory efi system more power and semi more reliable and also a 350 with a carb sounds so much better then efi for some reason

Regearing what you have is sounding better all the time!

😂 prolly put the 350 in then shit would break next day

Judging by the thoroughness of your plan and your thought process, you might be correct.

If you want to screw around with carburetors, get one of those little Coleman mini bikes and have fun with that until you get bored.
