Crawl Tek Pyro Stubby Front Bumper

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum but certainly not new to forums.

Wanted to throw up some photos of the Crawl Tek bumper I just received. Probably like most I spent way too much time researching before pulling the trigger on a new part. However I couldn't find anything aside from the little bit of information on this particular bumper provided on company website so I figured I'd throw up some pics for someone who may be looking in the future.

I appreciate that they give you a cutout of their company logo in which you can decide if you want to affix to bumper. Not sure I was a fan on the laser cut fire monkey thing as shown on website CAD photo. Bumper came powder coated and packaged very well. Received within a week of purchase.

My new to me LJ is in getting fresh paint this week but will update with photos of bumper mounted when I get er back.

I stopped looking when it tried to force me to accept all cookies before it'd let me look at any products. Other sites allow us to refuse some cookies, like being able to refuse to give them permission to sell my data to others, but accept other less problematic cookies. Not that site.

I like the look of it and that it has an integrated winch plate.

I don't like that they chose to tack weld everything though. I couldn't put faith in that bumper for that reason alone.

I tried to do that for 5-10 minutes and it would not let me close the Cookies affirmation window and continue onto the bumper. I've done that many times on other websites but that webpage wouldn't cooperate when I tried to do that. Maybe they fixed it after I bitched at them lol.

You don't have to close anything. Just browse as normal and let that popup on the side be there (ie ignore it).

Yup, no problem on my Mac running Chrome.

Yep I tried to exactly that multiple (!) times and it wouldn't let go to any of the bumpers.

Good advice and yep I use Google Chrome and it's fully up to date. I was at one of the main companies behind the start of the Internet, Silicon Graphics, starting there in 1989. We were also the first to come out with easier web page authoring tools called WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) so navigating web pages is nothing new to me. I sold many Silicon Graphics (aka SGI) supercomputers used to to connect to each other called Darpanet before the Internet grew out of that and came to be.

In other words I may be OLD but navigating web pages and cookies selection is nothing new to me.

I was digging the looks of the bumper, until I saw this...

Those are some COLD & Shoddy welds. Way too weak of a weld for the thickness of the material.
I'd bet my bank account that those welds aren't fully penetrating.

If the welds are only 1/16 penetration, it doesn't matter how thick the material is, as the only thing holding it together is hopes & imagination.

Enjoy the bumper for what it is, but I would just keep in mind that it's NOT as Heavy Duty as it seems.

Aside from that, I actually really like the design of this bumper.
I haven't seen one until now.

Wonder if they sell a raw-cut weld it yourself kit for them?

Welding was my first "career" out of highschool. (2013)
Welded structural, then went to a medical supply facility and welded a ton of stainless (OR tables, Mortuary equipment, Mobility Equipment, etc).

The pay rates are NOT what the blue-collar world would convince you to believe.
I started fresh at $12 an hour, working 60-70 hour weeks.
Even after all my certifications, I topped out around $28 an hour.

Only way to manage more than that is to fight for a spot at a high-demand facility, or go to the pipelines. (with the exception of a few private shops/facilities)
Part of the "good money" is also due to selling your time/energy/life to 60-80 hour work weeks.

Long story short, these companies are paying pennies for "welders".
Nobody who knows what they're doing is going to accept the job, but there's 1000's of freshies who come straight out of school and accept it because "Welding is a great career!".

Engineers are paid very well, and THEN the rest of the overhead is thrown into actual production.
In turn THIS is what the products look like. Well designed, poorly constructed.
