That was for the non-crank version. I ordered the hand crank version, which is why it costs more.
Huh? That one has the hand crank "Lifting power is provided by a reliable worm drive hand crank winch and braided steel cables."

No, that's an error on their part.
https://www.quadratec.com/p/lange-originals/hoist-top-simple-jeep-cj-wrangler
The one they are really selling is this one:
https://langeoriginals.com/products/frame-only-for-jeep-wrangler-cj-yj-tj-1976-2006
Hence the price.
The one I bought is this one:

Quadratec is selling the simple version that has no crank or power winch. They just have it mislabeled on their website. That's why the price is so friggin' low. I'm not sure if they realize this... yet.
I could be wrong, but I don't think so. No way Quadratec is selling it for that much less than everywhere else on the internet. I would understand $10 less maybe, but they're selling it for way, way less.
Something doesn't add up.
Well, I bought the exact one in the post straight from Lange and it is as pictured. Here is the Lange LINK.
I cannot speak for the one you ordered on whether you can keep the window down or not, but the one from Quadratec and the one straight from Lange will allow for the window to remain closed and comes with a hand crank for $149
Weird! If you look at the customer photos of the one I ordered, it shows the window down, so it looks like it's the one I need!
@Chris, the one you bought is the same one I have and you will not be able to close the back window as it comes with the larger black coated J hooks. Leaving my window up doesn't really bother me though. It stayed up all last summer with no issues. No, that's an error on their part.

Having said that, I never actually tried to close mine, figuring it would cause pressure on the glass.
Maybe they ship with different hooks, as, like you said, the pictures clearly show the window closed..who knows!
Ugh... so annoying. I'm going to see if I can change the order. It would be nice to be able to close the window given the lack of space in my garage.
If you're crafty at all, I would think you could fab your own bracket to allow the window to close, which is something I may do this year, just for the hell of it. This really is a nice system that could be made better with a little tweaking!Ugh... so annoying. I'm going to see if I can change the order. It would be nice to be able to close the window given the lack of space in my garage.
If you look at the pic I posted the rear window is closed most of the way and is only held open by the assist pistons, it could be closed all the way and taped to hold it closed.
The first one you ordered has a single hoisting point connected to a "T" Bar. I would think that thing would be a pain to balance. The other one has two hoisting points, one for the back by the rear window and another more centered for the strap.
What I did with mine was get it all mounted, lift off the hardtop and let it sit about 2 inches above the ground for a week maybe. That way I could get the initial stretch out of the strap and then adjust it to level out the top. Then I hoisted it to the ceiling and I was good.
Well, I saved $50 and got the better hoist. I guess they are charging more for the other one because of the T-bar, huh?
...Just have to spend some time balancing the load so it doesn't hang crooked.
That's it. I just lowered it to the floor, adjusted the strap, then raised it a couple of inches. Kept doing that until it was level. It only took a couple of tries.
Once you level it though, you don't have to do it again each time you put the hard top back on it?
Correct. The straps will stay at your set length. I did see a little stretch in the straps, but after a couple of days I adjusted the strap length one more time and I'm pretty sure it's all done.
hi, do you have any issues with the cables not lining up and working correctly on the double pulley due to the other two pulleys being angled in?? I need to do a side mount of the same system but a bit concerned. Cheers!I just installed the Lange Hoist and it works great. Me and my OCD did a little extra to secure it. I used 2X6 backing braces on the other side of each mounting 2X6 and across the studs and rafters just to make sure everything held. I also didn't use lag screws to hold the pulleys on, I used bolts with large washers to stop them from pulling through. I used a spade bit to counter sink the hole for the washer and nut so it would sit flush.
I went with the Lange for a few reasons. 1) It uses cables vise rope and 2) And the main reason is it's setup for keeping the back window down which allows me to store it closer to the wall. Since it's closer to the wall, I angled the pulleys for a side pull. It does have a hand crank, but I use my cordless drill to zip it right up and down.
