Yet another regearing question

Currently running a 97 TJ, with 3spd Auto, with Dana 35/Dana 30 (but have a Dana 44 housing, working on), with 4.10s and 33's, works well, not crawling rocks or bouncing off them, just general trail and moderate wheel'in, no issues so far, but planning to go to 35's.
Hi Rex. Thanks for the input. What do you hope to gain by changing to the 35's if you're pleased with your current setup?

Well. Another day and I continue to learn more about my TJ. This "getting acquainted" time is special. My TJ seemed to be tall for me getting in and out, but then again I am older, shorter, and part of the great "unfamiliar to jeeps" peeps so what do I know!
Sent a knowledgeable friend a photo of the front suspension and he informed me that somewhere in the great unknown history someone has done a " 2" spring spacer lift" that should be mostly adequate for my 32" tires for mild to moderate off-roading.
Anyone have any experience/thoughts/wisdom to share on this?
A 2" spacer is barely enough for 32's, but will work. Just make sure to extend the bumpstops as necessary to keep the tires off the fenders. More than likely the springs have sagged over time so you aren't really running a 2" lift. You can measure the spring without the rubber isolator on flat ground and unloaded and see where you are, 12" frt, 8" rear is factory.

If it is too tall for you, there are many step options available. Just be aware that they will hang down and catch on stuff when off road.

Always consider your final build plans when choosing a gear ratio. There's no one ratio that will perfectly cover multiple tire sizes. If you want to know your rpm results with a given tire and gear have a look at http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

Nice site! Thanks for contributing this to the thread!

Yes.

Though for only running 32" tires, you'd be better off keeping your stock Dana 35 axle and buying a Super 35 kit (along with a locker). That Super 35 will run up to 35" tires without an issue. The Dana 44 is nice for sure, but they cost quite a bit used, and there's no need for one unless you're planning on running 35" tires or larger IMHO, especially when the Super 35 option is a very good one.

So I would say keep your axles, install a Super 35 kit in the rear, add lockers, and re-gear at the same time. You'll want to do this all at once to save money too.
Thanks Chris. I've investigated the web searching for more info on the Super 35 - sources, cost, YT videos on installs, etc.- and haven't had much success. Is there an info link you could provide for those of us considering/investigating the S35 please?

Okay. Another consideration has entered the equation:
Any experience/thoughts on the Detroit TruTrac LSD?
TT works great but it isn't meant for serious rock crawling and/or when you are off camber a lot and lifting a tire off the ground. I do not do that kind of wheeling so a TT in rear and Aussie locker in front work great for me.

@AOR sells them and can give you all the info you need. I’m sure he’ll chime in soon!

Thanks. It has a step so the height isn't a problem, it just didn't feel like a stock height and made me suspicious that something must have been done before I bought it. Good thought on the sagging issue, I'll check that out.
Makes me wish I had a list of everything that's been done to it since the original build.

Hey Guys. Thank you @Chris Hey David. If you are looking for a S35 kit, I have a great package deal here. All you need except for a front carrier. There are front carrier options on that product. As far as the 2" spacers go, how much do you think your existing springs have sagged from age now? You could always add some aftermarket fenders to open up travel a bit if you decide to go with 33s later.

Let me know if you want any info, or help, sourcing the parts you want/need for the driving you plan on doing..

Have a blessed and prosperous day!

Any time, always glad to help, I've been using and recommending that site for a long time now. Best gear calculator I've ever come across.

A number of people on JF have given positive reports on strengthening the Dana 35 with 1541H Axles and running LSD front and rear or rear only. For about $1K more you can do the Super35, which is superior (no pun intended). Ultimately it all depends on what you need for your kind of wheelin.

Also, I’m considering the short term solution of 1541 H axles and a TT vs the S35, regear route. Can’t think too well right now, too many brewskies down the hatch! :beer-toast1:

Thank you!
Someone else in the thread brought up the possibility of sagging springs also!
Will definitely be checking that out.
Still debating which direction to go. Nice to know where to go if I decide on the S35!
Have a blessed weekend!

If you go with a locker as recommended you'll need that Super 35 kit. A Dana 35 is not strong enough in stock form for a locker. A Super 35 includes a choice of a couple different lockers. If you start leaning this direction I can help you decide which locker would be best for you. :)

Hijacking this old thread for a question. I have three quotes for the following:

Includes
Yukon 4.56 gears
Master bearing and seal kits
Rear outer axle bearings and seals
Yukon 1541 30 spline rear shafts
Rear 30 spline Eaton e locker
Wiring locker
Labor
1 year warranty on labor
Parts warranty by manufacturer

Shop 1
$2900 Parts and labor out the door: EDIT: $2700 as I already have the 3.73 and up carrier. Will document all work with pictures

Shop 2
All parts listed as Yukon above would be Revolution
$3069 + tax

Shop 3
All parts listed as Yukon above would be Revolution
$2692 + tax
No warranty

Shop 1 only deals in Yukon. Are these prices reasonable?

I hope @Jerry Bransford chimes in because I think he will tell you to get Revolution. I have used Yukon gears before, but I haven't ever seen a Yukon s35 axle. Also it sounds like they are not selling you a kit. Meaning if they are selling you bearings then they are piecing this together. I have never seen Yukon s35 axles before. Not saying there is not such a thing, but all of the s35 kits I have researched came with bearings and such. That might be a minor deal, so I am hoping @Jerry Bransford has better info than me.

Also I might be wrong on this, but I have read somewhere that the elocker also uses air? Does it need to be plumbed too?

Pricing out a S35 kit with a ARB it was like 1600-1800 or so, so your prices aren't that for out there with labor, but no warranty scares me. that seems like they have no liability. It might be time to learn how to install a locker yourself? Even you can beat a no warranty

I am kind of in the market myself and the only reason why I am bringing any of this up is because @Jerry Bransford and @Chris really hard sell Revolution. Although I don't have any experience with Revolution that they advertise it so much, I am inclined to look into it.

I am considering 456 ARB revolution gears and axles myself.
