Stock Rims & 33s

Hey Guys,

I’m kinda of new to anything vehicle related because I hadn’t been as interested before. I was wondering if 33s would fit on my stock rims. 2006 TJ, I have no clue what size they are honestly, and I have no idea how to tell. I know that sounds really dumb, but I’m learning.

33s tires will fit your wheels. You will need to extend the steering stops just a bit. The biggest requirement is that you really ought to have 3.5-4" of total lift in order to properly fit 33s. Anything less is a increasing compromise.

Also, no stock TJ has low enough axle gearing to optimally turn 33s. Some are less bad than others, though.

Just to reiterate what he's saying about gearing, I've got an 06 Rubicon with an Auto tranny and the suggested gearing is the... 5.13s I think? or 5.38 (some number around in that ballpark) if I wanted to go to 33s. Some say it's acceptable at 4.10 (Rubi) or 3.73 (Sport,X) but you lose a lot on the low end unless you regear, and that'll set you back a good chunk of change as well.

Well... My setup is 33s on an 03 Rubicon with a manual, and 4.88s are really wonderful.

The specific transmission really really matters when picking gears.

You'll hate the hills on the highway with that auto & 33's, unless you re-gear the axles.

33x10.50 tires will fit but 33x12.50 are too wide for the factory wheels. The factory wheels have too much backspacing for a 12.5" wide tire, meaning they'd rub on the suspension, plus if they're 15x7 wheels they're a little too narrow for a 33x12.50.

I would definitely re-gear! I’m thinking I want to do a 2inch body life and 33s. But with what everyone is saying I think I need more than a 2 inch lift.

For mall crawling, a MINIMUM of 3" of additional clearance is required for 33's. For offroading, 4" of additional clearance is needed. A 2" body lift is just a plain bad idea, go with nothing taller than a 1" or 1.25" body lift. For 33" tires, a 3" suspension lift plus a 1" or 1.25" body lift is ideal.

Do a 2.5-3” Suspension Lift and a 1-1.25” Body Lift for 33’s. Regear. More involved than you probably suspected. Hang on. There’s a learning curve, and a price tag and we’ve all been there or still are there

If you aren't married to the idea of 33s, you can run 32s with a 2" - 2.5" suspension lift, no body lift needed, and stay with stock wheels. Depending on your current axle gears, you could get by without a re-gear.

I’m running 31s now, and it’s okay, but I have no lift on it. I want mine to have the bigger tires and a lift, but I’m also a college student in a ramen noodles budget, haha.

In that case keep running those 31's. The biggest size that can be run on an unlifted TJ.

With that 4spd Auto your OD is soo fucking tall you could run 4.88, 5.13s or deeper. I hate the 4sp OD even with 29s. It is a completely different game.

But re 33s, lift.... My TJR runs 33s on a stock suspension with a HighLine. Lots of options to get clearance for 33s. Don't buy the lift as being the best or easiest or cheapest way.

This is stock suspension, 33s, HighLine. The HighLine kit was $1995.00
Need a tummy tuck next.... for the Jeep & me.

The other option, 33s without regearing.... Keep the OD turned off. But as a student.... yeah, keep it stock.
