4.8 Swap LJ

Is this guy a bot🤣

He's got a LS swapped TJ.... But none of us have seen it or seen the engine or any other real information about it..

But he LOVES a LS and thinks it's the Cats Meow.... And likes A/C

I mean I agree with all the logic of his anyway…. But reality is sometimes another thing.

I may be an anomaly, I put the bone stock worst “LS” in a Jeep and will own it.

Well I'm a little jealous as I don't think I'm going to get to my A/C as I said earlier... But I've lived without not for 20 years so another year won't kill me.

I've got to get other things fixed that are more important.

You’ve lived without for over 2/3 of my life🤣

I absolutely get it though. I don’t function correctly so I have to do stupid stuff to get stuff done, I could never do a long term build which is a huge negative as I sacrifice things.

If it weren’t for my son I’m not sure I’d be worried at all. Also the wife’s “vacation time” is a bit more strict than mine and her losing her job over my stupid Jeep build is illogical. I just so happen might have a Jeep expert friend driving cross country (coming back when we’re going out) the same time, I don’t want to inconvenience them but I will absolutely try to bum help if needed.

You're gunna make me feel old....

I really hadn't started out to do a 5 year build... I've had a LOT of SHIT happen along the way that's caused me delays or redirects.

I drove across the USA from NY to CA & then to AK twice in a rig without any A/C. But I was in my twenties and alone. And as I said I used to not like A/C and wouldn't use it in older cars. It just smelled wrong.

Now I've gotten soft and want A/C....

I spent 7 months in Iraq and our A/C wasn't working 1/3 of the time.... 130*+ and wearing 60lbs of gear where there wasn't any A/C too...

I absolutely get it on all accounts, mine would be a 30 year build if it wasn’t a 4+ month.

I’m young so I’m always soft haha.

I don’t envy that time you spent! Thanks….

I have seen it. I think it’s a burgundy Sahara IIRC. The swap was tastefully done but I can’t remember the details of the engine.

I bought some takeoff parts from him a couple years ago. He has a sweet shop too with some other nice projects in there. Nice guy.

I too love my AC lol.

Trip to Colorado and Moab completed. 1/4 million mile 4Runner was almost flawless (small insignificant issues).

Now time to think of what I want from this LJ. The trip was a little enlightening to some goals.

A few non personal photos of the trip. The 4Runner is rock solid, but not ideal for this, though neither is the LJ. I actually am glad I took the 4Runner though the LJ would have been way more cool, there are other potential fits for the LJ though, lot of thinking ahead.

Woke the LJ from hibernation yesterday and took my son for a short ride, pretty certain he is obsessed with it, especially with no doors.

Time to figure a few things out:

Hose routing: since I added the AC compressor there really is no room for the belt and coolant hose. I have it “working” for now but do not trust it. I think I may be required to do a body lift (Holley says it is required for the engine swap). This would also give me some clearance for transmission lines.

I also need to get tow/haul and trailer brakes installed.

I definitely still have an intermittent lifter tap, at this point I may just monitor it/cut oil filters at every change.

With no doors why do you even want A/C?

Those of us with soft tops who run without doors or just a Safari top can tell you that having that cold air blowing on you helps.
Might not be the same as a sealed up rig but it's still a comfort.

this is accurate, and also true with the heat when it's cold.

love this whole thread. 4.8 is a stout motor and i bet your LJ feels a lot better with the added power. totally agree on AC too, i have a 4 year old and a passenger princess wife that couldn't go without it. i honestly dont think i could go long without it either. i daily drive my LJ and want it as comfortable as any other vehicle, feature wise.

i think you're building yours out exactly how i'd like to build mine.

I’ve driven it enough to know it’s perfectly adequate and not at all a performance machine. I’ve said it before, it’s exactly what you would have wanted from the factory in 2006. Doing it all again it’d have a TR4050 and a very mild 5.3.

if you get bored enough, the 4.8 handles boost incredibly well. haha
