When I bought my 06 TJ X 3 years ago, I took it back to the dealer in Boulder.
They said there was no recall by the manufacturer, but the dealerships were authorized to repair under the vehicle warranty.
Since I was well beyond, I was SOL.
I hit them with “so you sold me a Jeep knowing it had a safety hazard ?” That got them to think liability, they offered a used tank, and I refused, because the problem would just return.
They said that’s all that could be done because the tanks aren’t made anymore and there were no after market tanks available.
I gave him a printed sheet of the Genright extended range tank. After some bickering, they worked with Chrysler, and the new tank was covered by my extended warranty that I had purchased at the time of the sale.
Granted, not everyone has a valid extended warranty now, but those of you who do, for me, it was worth the time and effort. 24.5 gallons, no splash, and I didn’t have to get dirty. Plus I have a neat looking custom made aluminum tank and heavy duty wrap around skid/protection.
