Did an “RC Alignment” (Caster, Toe, and Wheelbase) and the steering is fairly dialed in. 70 mph with zero bump steer, which is also a function of the work that my buddy Paul did with fabbing a custom Track Bar, Drag Link, and the Track Bar Bracket location that we selected. I still need to install a rear sway bar, so it is a little more road-worthy, and will do disconnects to avoid snapping it during off-road use.

Wouldn't worry too much about snapping it, buddy of mine just put a stock tj rear sway bar on his 4linked xj and it works great off road. After having run off road with only a front swayloc once I went and bought a rear antirock. The way the body followed the front axle was way too sketchy for me.

Now it's so stable I've driven 3 ft up a tree with one wheel and still felt flat, I've had both opposite corners off the ground over a several foot drop and again felt totally in control.

Something for sure, I went antirock because the stock tj rear didn't want to fit on the jk axle. (at least not that I could see at the time. But they seem to work equally well as that xj goes further up the RTI ramp than I do. However the antirock let's you adjust things to match the front exactly, so that's nice.

Having both front and rear sway bars is hugely beneficial, well beyond just a single sway bar. The factory TJ rear is soft enough to control movement while still allowing the suspension to move. It's the factory front that is too stiff to work well off road. That is why so many get along just fine with a front AR and a factory rear. Though I agree that being able to tune both ends would be helpful.

I was able to get it in the ballpark, but still have some fine-tuning to do. Measured 38” to bottom of the front tire, before the rear ever bumped, or came close to lifting a tire. #Flexy!

Rather than use a skid steer, why not put the Jeep on jack stands, remove the coils and bump stop jounces, then use a floor jack to move the axle through it's entire range of motion? Doing this if the busy way to recreate dynamic loads in ways that flexing with a fork lift cannot do and allow you to better set the bump stops to where they need to be.

@jjvw, That is a great question. I recognize that there are a few ways to do it, and I’m not married to one particular way.

Having said that, I usually set bump one of two different ways. The first, is without shocks (or coils as you said), with wheels/tires on, in order to achieve stuff and determine the measurement I’ll need for bump.

This time, I worked with Jeremy from Rock Krawler on a few specs, and landed on 12.1” shock travel +/- 0.5-0.75” of travel. I went with (4) 12.1” Fox Remote Reservoir Front Shocks for a JK (stem mount both F & R).

Since I knew which shock I was married to (instead of determining shock length after cycling without shocks, I decided to install the shocks and coils, and use the skid steer, since both the shocks and coils were fixed components of my equation.

An additional benefit is I always establish rear bump first, which I did when I posted this. This provides an opportunity to set rear tire stuff, and for me (more importantly) a pivot point for the suspension to compress against in the rear, so the the remainder of the articulation comes from the front. So I used the skid-steer, cranked her up carefully with adjustable bump stops in the rear, got close to tire stuff, locked them in, and remeasured remaining stuff up front. Once the body pivoted off the rear compressed/bumped side, the front axle continued to articulate up until I reached stuff. I backed off about 0.75”, then measured between the top bump stop and the bottom coil plate. This was my additional bump needed.

Hope my explanation helps. Again, I’m not married to my way, as I continue to tinker and evaluate new ways of doing things. I just felt this was best since the shocks had been decided. Now if I didn’t have shocks, or was going to truly tailor those to the uncompressed articulation, I may have taken a different approach.

Dropped the front axle today to install the bottom bump stops (that’s right, a second set to help minimize tire-stuff). Put it all back together, and onto to other items now... pondering doing the Rear Main Seal, Oil Pan Gasket, and Oil Pan Skid this week. [emoji848]

Knocked out a few more things tonight... Reset the rear LED taillights, and set the trim rings with silicone. Ran new, longer, axle breather hoses and check valves, due to the longer suspension travel. Adjusted the Drag Link. Re-Centered the Fox Steering Stabilizer Mount. Wired up the front LED light bar. Anddddd..., I’m out of daylight. Tune in tomorrow for more!

Went over to Scott’s to preload both of our winch lines, and cruises over to Garrett’s to check the new bump stop adjustments. They still aren’t completely dialed, but I got the bottom of the tire up to 42.5” off the ground (from 38” where it was last time). It’s fairly flexy.

The bad news is that I discovered 4WL does not engage (probably need to adjust my Saavy Off-Road shifter/cable), and my emergency brake does not hold on an incline. [emoji15] The darn thing almost rolled into the orchard by itself! ‍♂️♂️♂️

More work to do, but that will wait for another day. It’s time to relax... Happy 4th of July!!!

Okay, new issue. The code that is being pulled is an “SoF 2.1 Bus b0 Panel Open”. This one is kicking my ass, and I could certainly use advice.

Pulled the dash, instrument cluster, and multi-function switch, along with the throttle body, TPS, and IAC, attempting to resolve the wild revving problem. While I wait on parts to be delivered to O’Reilly’s, I went ahead and did a custom mount onto the rear tire carrier for my (2) 3-gallon Rotopax. I know there are several who expressed concerns about this Tire Carrier holding the RotoPax, and those are noted. I may upgrade to a Rear Trail Stinger at some point, so this will just be temporary. They came out nice. I finished just in time to find out that my parts came in at O’Reilly’s, so I’m off to get the gaskets, etc., to put the fuel system back together to see if she runs right.

My factory tank that I relocated, has a leak around one of the vents, and it appears to have a hole in it.

Any lines on factory TJ tank replacements?
