Kim's 99 Jeep Wrangler Build Thread

Today has been a busy day for me. The sun finally has been coming out the last couple days and I have been itching to work on my Jeep. Got a lot done.

I started off installing some new speakers in the dash. I bought some adapter plates to mount 5 1/4 speakers, but I wish I would have bought the little box thingys you can get for them. Oh well, the sound is much better then it was before (speaker was bad). I still need to buy some for the sound bar, but for now those still work, just sound pretty bad when you turn it up loud. So no blasting the radio for now. :D

Then I got my wire tap fuse thingy and plugged my light bar switch into the radio fuse. I first tried the parking lights, but that kept the switches light on all the time. Going to the radio fuse, it shuts off when you turn the key off, comes on when it is running.

Next was the headlight guards. First thing was first, had to paint them purple. :D

It was getting warm, so I tried my AC, it didn't work. Hubby had a can of that stuff you can fill it yourself, so we filled it, but found out why it didn't work in the first place. Bad hose. The local AC place wants 85 bucks to rebuild that hose and that is with me taking it off. Local parts store can get me a new hose for 45 bucks plus about 15 in shipping. Rock auto has the same hose for 17 and some change. LOL I'll be ordering it. :D

I also got my purple door and glove box straps. They look pink in the photo but they are purple of course. :D

I bought the stuff for a tune up. Plugs, cap, rotor. I forgot to get the wires. LOL I will go back tomorrow for those. I also got the filter and oil to do an oil change. Probably do that tomorrow too. For now I started with changing the cap and rotor. Currently waiting for the motor to cool off a bit then I will go do the plugs. The one by the AC compressor looks like it is going to be fun to get to. LOL

The old cap looks like it has seen better days. Kind of curious to see how it's going to run with a new one, specially after seeing what the old one looks like. Yikes!!! Look at all that build up.

That is all for today. :D
I like the after picture a lot better.

Me too. The angry eyes just didn't look good on the TJ. They looked good on the Liberty though. LOL

I was right about that one plug by the AC compressor. I got it though. :D The old plugs didn't look too bad.

Tomorrow I will go get the wires and change those. :D

That bull bar needs to sit higher up on the bumper, IMO.

Yah, I actually bought it for my old Liberty and kept it when I traded it in. It is mounted how it should be for what it is, but I agree that it would be better if it were higher. Thing is, it would look like crap if I mounted it to the actual bumper in the front, that and it would put it way out too far. Eventually I want to get a different bumper anyway. For now, this is fine. I don't plan on doing any major rock crawling or anything so I 'm sure it will be fine for now. I mean, really, there isn't to many curbs in the mall parking lots that are that high. :D

Here is just one bull bar I found at Extreme terrain. There are several that mount just like this. It's just how these bumpers mount. Mine is actually up a bit higher then the one in the pic.

Yes, he has more colors. I emailed him for a link I could share, but I did find his ad on FB. I messaged him through it to get mine.

I took a pic of the FB ad.

He has pretty fast shipping. I ordered it on Monday the holiday and got it yesterday. :D

My tail light guards come in last night so I got them painted and today installed them.

When I was putting the passenger side on I was thinking, I sure hope my tailgate clears them. It just does. LOL

I also climbed back underneath it to try to find my rattle I am getting. I can hear it going slower speeds and hitting some bumps. I think it is this linkage but not sure why? It seems to be ok. I don't see anything broken or really loose, although I can wiggle it and make the noise.

Looking from the back forward, you can see where it appears to be rubbing. It has a shiny spot.

olEkUcN3RR2QcaZLtR05GQ_zpsmrjznyel.jpg

I will have to get it on an actual lift, instead of crawling under it, to have a better look. For now I'll turn the volume up on the radio. LOL

I’m not sure if you are hearing the rattling from the front or back, but I had the same issue and realized it was the hood latch rattling. I think I had a rattle in the back that turned out to be something with the back door or something, Sometimes we look for more complicated things and it’s a much easier fix.

Not sure if I can upload a video but I'll try. I am hearing it like it is coming from the tunnel area under the Jeep.

Had to upload to youtube instead.

Dave reminded me I had a similar rattle because there is a piece of foam that was missing between the hard top, and the piece that connects it to the jeep body. It’s hard to tell on the video where the noise is coming from but another thing to check .

Well, my sun visors from DeadJeeps came today. They were supposed to be here last Sat, but do to the weather, didn't get here till today. Boy am I disappointed with them. The one wasn't the same as in the picture (bought them off eBay) and it is broke down. Meaning it isn't stiff anymore and you have to grab way up at the top to raise and lower it or it just bends. I even WD40 it in hopes it would make it easier to move up and down. It helped a little but it is just to broke down to work correctly. The other one was damaged. The end that goes in the center mount was broke off. Probably broke in shipping, but I feel that it shouldn't have if it was packed in a better box. I contacted Deadjeeps about this and waiting on a reply. I feel I way over paid for the quality of product I got.

I also included some pics of my new to me ashtray and my zipper pulls. :D I'm happy with those purchases. LOL :D

I'll bet your neighbors love you for the purple house, huh? ;)

I would be pissed off about those visors. Tell them you want a refund and make them pay for shipping back. Those things are definitely damaged.

LOL, they don't mind it. :D.

Yah, I contacted them I even took pics of the ones that they had in the advertisement and you can see they are different and look a lot better then the ones I got. The one that is broken down was so really discolored too. I did clean them up and they look a bit better as for as that goes, but not much else. The passenger one is actually in decent shape as far as the material and build, but that is the one that broke the tab off the end.

It seems like they duped you with pictures of visors that weren't the ones you got. If they have good feedback on eBay, they should have no problem making it right.

I just laughed about the purple house paint, because in my sisters neighborhood (which is an HOA), they would absolutely lose their shit over something like that... I mean you'd have people probably outraged! So glad we don't live in an HOA!

We will see what happens. I asked for a better set or refund some of my money. I should have just said to give me a better set. When I first sent the email I was thinking I could live with them if I get most of my money back, but now after thinking on it a bit more, I don't think I will be happy. I will probably get an after market set later down the road if I don't get a better set from them. I wish I would have went that way in the first place now. But, I did really look at the pics before I bought those. So I thought I was good to go. NOT. LOL

Yah, I would never live in a HOA.

Since it was nice outside today I decided to try to install my hitch myself. Did it!!! LOL :D Wasn't to bad to do, I used a little chair on wheels to kind of hold the one end up while I put the bolt through the other end. Once I got the 2 back bolts started I moved onto installing the back bolts with the pieces that keep them from turning in the frame. The hitch came with a wire they called a fishing wire. That made things so much easier.

Here are some pics.

The bolt, keeper, and fishing wire.

Forgot to put wire through the hitch in this pic, but it shows how the wire works.

Nice thing is the wire is really long so I was able to put it through after the fact. :D

Next thing to do is the bumper ends for the front bumper. I ordered them yesterday and they will be here tomorrow. :D They are the one's that replace the jugs on the front.
