What did you do to your TJ today?

First off, these came in the mail today

Then I drilled out some broken bolts, two of the four that hold the “Jeep “ trim piece in front of the grill and the two bottom bolts for the rear bumper and anchored my previously flapping about front axle breather hose.

I went to use my trailer and found that my trailer lights were not working, after doing a bit of trouble shooting I found that the PO only had 3 wires going to the trailer receptacle... yellow, brown and green? no ground anywhere?

So I guess I know what one of my next projects is....

Just replaced the rear main seal for the second time in a week(ish)! Hopefully this time it remains leak free[emoji1696][emoji120][emoji1696].

What do you think you did wrong the first time?

Couldn’t tell that there was anything wrong to be quite honest. I wish we (neighbor and me) found something wrong because that would explain things but now we’re just left wondering and hoping we did it right this time. I did decide to buy an OEM seal this time instead of Felpro so hopefully that’s all it was! A lot of work for such a simple part.

Make sure your valve cover gasket looks good. Sometimes it can look a lot like a rms.

[emoji15] oh wow, that would completely suck! I was pretty sure it was the RMS. Thanks for the tip though, I’ll keep it in mind if it’s still leaking.

When inspecting an oil leak, it's best not to invest too much time looking from the bottom of the engine. Always investigate from the top down, as mentioned, oil runs down and drops off the bottom of the engine. The said leak could be coming from the valve cover gasket (a common issue) and running down the back of the engine block, making it appear as the RM leaking.

I pulled my back seat and carpet out today in anticipation of receving bedtred covering for an expanded cargo area. I also removed the back seat brakets and short belts. We are taking our tj and our lab to Colorado for the Summer and he will ride a bunch. White Lab hair is difficult to clean off of black carpet. It also sticks to black jeep seats backsvlike glue. I want to get some seat covers for the front buckets that will be more friendly for cleaning. Any ideas on slip on covers for those front seats are appreciated.

Finally got a chance to do the research, and get the parts in I needed to finish the job

So the PO had the jeep set up to follow an RV, it looks like the rear of the jeep was set up to do the same but they did some real weird stuff.

I had to completely remove the old wiring, then add the new wiring back in
then verified that it all actually works! it's always nice when a plan comes together.

Had to remove the transfer case to replace the output shaft seal. I guess i got a bad one when i did my clutch. (or more likely i screwed up). And i lubed the clutch push rod. (Because I forgot to do that) thankfully I did remember to lube the clutch fork on the dumb side during the initial install.

Now im ready for the weekend. Time to drive it to the fiat dealer and buy my wife a new car. While telling the salesman that this is a real jeep.
