Looking for a capable DD with support

I've had 4 new Toyotas and the quality and reliability is impressive. I took the 2005 generation Tacoma for a test drive and I couldn't get past that cab design. You sit in the drivers seat with your legs straight out like a small import. Visibility, not so great. When this new generation came out this year, that aspect didn't change much. Hard to convince the Japanese that maybe not everybody likes to be cocooned in a shoe box. My little TJ with the seat risers has a much better seating position. Otherwise, a very solid product that will stand up to time.

Well my budget has increased to $9500 after receiving a $1500 check from a class action lawsuit from Walmart from back in 05 or whenever.

That was my experience in a 4 runner I had to babysit over the summer for a friend back in college. Felt like a car cuz of the lack of rise in the seat. Are the early 2000 tacos the same?

Yes, the early tacos have you sit with your legs out in front. My fathers newest Tacoma (2016) still has a little of that feeling. The rise is a little better but still too much like your legs are in front. My brothers GMC Canyon has a better seat feeling. Congrats on the Walmart settlement.

Even my step-dad's 2002 Tundra has that where you sit with your legs out in front like a car. I don't like it, but I've gotten used to it whenever I borrow his truck. It's a Toyota thing.

My daughter and her husband just got a 2016 DC Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 that I will be checking out next week. Wife and I are going to Portland, OR for Christmas on the 23rd. I wanted to compare it to my 2013.

About 7-8 years ago there was an '85 CJ-7 that must have showed up on a number of sites with comments under every one in how this was a scam. It was a darn shame to because it was so clean and had the Renegade package that I would have sold my soul for.

Not surprising. I've seen things like that as well where the vehicle was gorgeous, but it was obviously a scam.

If they don't put a phone number in the ad, I never bother responding. I figure that if someone is serious about selling their vehicle, they'll post a phone number.

So I been searching daily and came across two local trucks owned by members of our off road club/organiziation.

2006 GMC Sierra 4 door 4x4 Z71 with 176k trouble-free miles. It's from South Carolina so not rusty. $7500
2006 Toyota Tundra Single Cab 8 ft bed, 112k miles from Kansas and just surface rust here and there underneath, none on body. $6000

I'm leaning towards the Tundra cuz of reliability. I'm going to check it out as soon as he gets it inspected.

Still searching southern states for a better deal.

Coming from a gmc truck as well I'd stay away from it. They very rarely last over 200k before being rebuilt. And the 4L60E is a horrible trans.

Yeah the guy said it's been trouble free for the 75k miles he put on it. He tows his jeep with it too. The only downside is the lady is complaining that it's a regular cab and no room inside. I told her there's Leer 100r bed cap that makes it look a bit more aggressive and adds tons of dry storage space in the rear. I just don't know how much those caps cost.

What type of Tundra does your step father have?

He has a 2002 Tundra with the V6 and a manual transmission. The only reason he got the V6 was because he insisted on a manual, and the V8 was never offered in a manual.
