Elderly respect meaning I drive a TJ. @Hammer24 sums it up perfectly. The wave is useless to JK’s where I live it’s like waving at a Honda

The idea is elderly respect is a funny one. Let's imagine a hard working young guy in a beater YJ passing a comfortably retired older guy in a JLU. Who deserves the respect? Really, anyone more than the other? I doubt the Honda crowd concerns themselves with such things.

I do because it is habbit now. The problem is I do it even when I am not in the Jeep.

Yeah, it is kind of strange doing the Jeep wave while driving the wife's Volvo crossover.
I do. I remember when I had a YJ and the CJ guys would scoff "that ain't no real jeep". Then the one CJ guy I know rolled his eyes to my new TJ. I asked what didn't make it real? The improved straight six with fi? The ac? The coil suspension straight from the factory that all the CJ guys upgrade to? He didn't have an answer.
Around here most JK and JL drivers are just "styling" in their JeepSUV. Just as well be in a Ford. No clue about the wave. But they have the $5,000 dress up to look offroady thing down pat. Because its a Jeep thing tee shirt shit.
I don't know if there is any form of motor vehicle related human behavior I've ever seen so over thought as the Jeep wave.
I've made my cracks about it , but at the end of the day you are just acknowledging someone knowing what you know ....Jeeps are very cool.
What I think is really great about the wave , is no other vehicle inspires that to the point it's a national phenomena to my knowledge . That alone says so much .
I've had 8 jeeps , currently have 2 , and have had all number of vehicles ..but I love every minute in my Jeep , with my Jeep , under my Jeep , staring at my jeep , washing my Jeep, and getting on here and talking about jeeps.
I don't need therapy , this IS my therapy.

Absolutely my friend. Mall crawlers, wall climbers, grocery-getters, back country beaters, built Jeeps, stock Jeeps - it's all the same. We all have Jeeps and the love/hate relationship that comes with ownership. Wave or don't wave, who cares? Just keep in mind we're all graduates of the same school. Your degree and what you choose to do with it are your business.

There was one startling difference between TX and WA; the quantity of Jeep Waves. I expected the opposite. I get far more Jeep Waves in WA than I did in TX. I wave at JK/U’s.
However, there are a few proud JK owners who think their mall crawlers are better than our old TJs that don’t wave. And the soccer moms and old women in stock Jeeps don’t have a clue, so I don’t bother waving as it just screws with their driving skills as they try to figure out if they’re supposed to know me from somewhere.

Motorcycles. Except HD riders won't typically wave at anyone not on a Harley. I've only had a couple HD's wave back while on my dual sport but just about everyone on any other kind of motorcycle waves, even in turns LOL.
I try and wave at all other 4wd jeeps. Every once in a while there is a lifted XJ that I pass on my way home from work that catches me off guard and I miss waving back at him. Sorry XJ guy, it isn't on purpose. haha
We have a guy that runs around town on a scooter... And does the low wave.
It's pretty funny.
That is because it is a Harley, not just a two wheeled bike. That would be like a Jeep driver waving to every AWD Nissan Rouge you see going down the road.
