Heh, you did indeed.

A stroker from Golen is about 7k. A Magnum Powers supercharger is about 5k, plus I'd want the ARH headers ($1350), and then tuning, plus some other stuff I'm sure would add to the cost.

So for both a stroker and the Magnum Powers setup, it's around 7k give or take.

I have to do the math, but I'm pretty certain I could do a full Hemi swap for less than 15k. The 5.7 Hemi isn't anything like the 6.4 in terms of cost.

I'd just have to see if I'd be able to reuse the NP241 transfer case with that swap. I wouldn't want to have to fork over the big bucks for an Atlas 4-speed at the same time :LOL:

Truthfully I've always wanted a V8 in a Jeep. The 5.7 Hemi seems to be one of the easier swaps and allows for the use of the factory gauge cluster, A/C, and other things more easily.
 
Gotcha. They actually don't look bad, and your logic makes sense. Way cheaper to replace than Pintlers, that's for sure!

I'm debating between the Magnum SC and a 5.7 Hemi using this kit:

The latter is obviously way more expensive, but I'm not in a hurry ;)

I have the 545rfe in my Diesel Liberty, it's a good transmission as long as you keep it cool but I think everyone here knows that!

Glad to hear that. I suppose that's pretty much common knowledge for all automatic transmissions in these sorts of vehicles. You keep them cool and they'll last a lot longer than they would otherwise.

Like I said, just have to figure out if that 545RFE behind the Hemi would work with the NP241.

I very well may, which is why I'm in no hurry! Hopefully you've got it all tuned and running 100% by then.

I'm curious what that Kubota can do once it's uncorked and tuned-up a bit.

Yeah there is some refinement that needs to be done, but I got my TCU working today so I can confirm I have 4 forward gears! The shifting is weird, you really have rev out first gear but the second you hit 2nd gear it just takes off with torque and boost! I'm aiming for it to be street legal next week!

Good news about the 241. That would save me time and money to re-use it. Plus, the 241 is a good transfer case as it is.

Is that shifting issue something you can resolve? The first gear shifting I mean.

I'm not sure what you are talking about, I've never had a 1st gear problem with mine.

In response to what you said about having to rev it out of first gear. Is that normal? The way I interpreted that sounded like maybe there was an issue with the TCU programming? Or maybe I just misinterpreted what you said.

OH OH OH sorry that is the AW4 tuning on my Kubota diesel swap, not the first gear in the Liberty, it's great!
 
Question.

I thought people generally choose the gm motor over the hemi due to heat issues.... any truth to this?
since its a AZ jeep you may want to look into it.

Heat issues? I never knew anything about that. I guess I need to do some searching.

I know in all the AEV swaps they used Hemis.

If this is being used a lot on the road I'd stay away from beadlocks, the unsprung weight they add is huge. You'd want to be doing a hell of a lot of off-roading to justify them.

Nope, I'm going to do as much of the outboard as I can myself to be honest.

You're right about the beadlocks. I have to consider how I'm going to use it. It's not going to be a daily by any means, but I will occasionally drive it around town. I think the smarter idea (and what I'll likely pursue) is a spare set of wheels / tires that are beadlocks.

Unsprung weight is worse for a 17” wheel vs a 15” same tire OD also.

Who did his last outboard? What was wrong with it?
 
Did the extra cut in the frame really make any structural difference or is it the fact that an easier, less invasive way, could have been done?

It didn't make a structural difference. It was just a lot of unnecessary work that went into creating a spot for the reservoir that simply could have been mounted elsewhere.
