Structurally Sound Rock Sliders

If yours are sandwiched between the body and the body mounts, then yours are a dumb design. However, if yours attach in such a way as to completely avoid anything to do with the body mounts or anything having to do with the frame, then you have some oddball PS design that isn't seen before often. Feel free to post pics of what you have.
Yeah, maybe I'm just not hard-core enough to damage my tub with these sliders. 😊
 
I had the poison spider rails that caused a lot of body damage. If they look like the ones in this picture, they are trash.

So I have been educated in the efficacy of body mounted sliders, but interested to know more about why mounting to the frame or body mounts is not such a good thing.
 
Honestly a big set back for me its the wait time, but my build has been put on hold so much that doesn't matter anymore. I'll look mow into the savvys

They will take 4 weeks maybe. They are very worth the wait though.

So I have been educated in the efficacy of body mounted sliders, but interested to know more about why mounting to the frame or body mounts is not such a good thing.

PS and similar require trimming either the body mind mount or the body lift spacer. This results in uneven loading of the body/frame connection. The trimmed body mounts are effectively unsupported loose connections. This often leads distortion of the body and excessive frame flex.

If anyone told you to remove two body mounts on each side under the doors, you would think that was a bad idea. That is exactly what Poison Spyder asked you to do.
 
I wouldn't trade my Poison Spyder Ricochet Rockers for anything in the world. I've beat the hell out of them over the years and they've protected 100%. Plus, with my roof rack, they are a really good step.
You ain't real smart or at least you're leading folks down the garden path. Anyone considering that set of bullshit sliders should pay close attention to the following pics that I collect from just a few of the rigs I see all with similar problems due to the crap that is PS.

These are all from rigs that use sliders as intended. The worst part is the cut out for the rear corners. That little tab gets pushed in and because the sliders aren't wheel well to wheel well, there is no support there and you can see what happens in the yellow rig pics.

The request was for structurally sound sliders. There is nothing structurally sound about PS, not one thing. In fact if it wasn't for the logo, the internet would have a field day picking on just how dumb that mounting system is.

Sadly, this is only a few of the rigs I've seen with the exact same issues. I'm usually too involved with getting something else fixed so I don't always grab pics but if folks are going to keep recommending this bullshit product, I'm going to expand my efforts and really build up the album.

The spot right above the hole with clear tape over it was almost worn through to the inside from the slider vibrating going down the highway.

Aren't they supposed to protect the tub, not damage it?

I just had a rig here that caused near complete failure of the right forward frame side body mount due to that uneven loading.

I'm saying three things. And in case you're having some cognitive problems I'll say them again.

1. They work for me. I like 'em.
2. They have never caused me or any one of the 60 or so people I've known who have had them on thier rigs problems. Maybe they've caused problems somewhere but like I said, I've never seen it in person. And..maybe I'm just not as hard-core as some of the rock crawlers you've run across.

I'll add a #3.

3. You can go find a corner to fuck yourself for implying that I'm neither "real smart" or "leading folks down the garden path". Prime example of your belittling behavior.

I've been looking for something to protect the side of my vehicle and provide a step as well for the shorter members of my family (generally I'm looking at wheel to wheel nerf steps from n-fab). I recognize rock sliders don't typically meet this criteria, although some of them do, which is how I ended up here.

What I'm surprised at is the consideration that attaching something to the frame is less likely to provide protection than something attached to the body. I haven't heard anyone say anything about them ending up in different positions, just that attaching to the frame or body mounts is bad.

Would one of you be so kind as to elaborate a bit further as to why? Or why issue attaching to the frame causes? This seems counter-intuitive to what I might have expected given that the frame is the most substantial part of the overall vehicle assembly, especially when compared to sheet metal.

Simple matter of leverage. To get from the of the rocker to the frame is a lengthy lever. The frame is only so strong and what happens is the frame gets rolled inward at the top and the rail smacks into the tub it is trying to protect. The other thing that happens on a hard hit is the body moves downward on the rubber body mounts so it contacts the tub rail when it is moving upward.

The issue with using body mounts is they are not a solid connection. They are rubber, they move, they are supposed to and in the pics above, you can clearly determine that the only thing holding the lower half of the mount in place is 3 squishy connections.
 
That makes sense - I didn't anticipate the frame rail bending, but I can see how that would happen in a prolonged duration impact, or even when falling onto it.

For me, I'm primarily concerned about side impact and a step - gotta get them in the car and gotta keep them safe while they are there. If the frame gets bent, then so be it - I'd rather have that than my passengers get squished by a large vehicle in a side impact.

I've been loading gear on my roof rack for years using these as a step. I've also done my share of rock crawling in the past. I'm no King of the Hammers but I'm also not inexperienced. Zero issues so far with nearly ten years of using these sliders. Last time I took them off for a new powder coat there was no rust either. Like I mentioned, I'm sure it happens under certain circumstances. Just didn't happen to me or anyone I personally know.

"It has worked for me for X years" isn't a good way to analyze the effectiveness of a product.
