Would it be a good idea to replace my Dana 30 axle shafts with chromoly?

Well if the OEM provided Jeeps with zero issues, then there'd be no reason to modify them - right?
I'm not saying the outer seals are a necessity, but maybe calling them "one of the dumber products out there" is a little harsh. They serve a purpose that suits my needs and to each his own.
Not even a little bit harsh. They are never a good idea. They serve no useful purpose other than to take money out of your pocket and give you a warm fuzzy. They hide a bigger problem and the trade off for a little mud in the tubes that doesn't hurt a damn thing except your feelings is simply not worth it. One of the dumber ideas for a product out there.
That's fine, maybe I'll start saving all the ones we pull and toss in the trash for the idiots out there.
My second TJ came with them, this is what I did with them the first chance I got. Not to mention they have the ability to hide/mask a leaking inner axle shaft seal, not good. It's a product that looks good/useful on the surface but its luster soon fades once you learn more about them and how they're just not needed.
Ya'll will double down on anything, won't you? I rarely see Jeep owners randomly check the fluid level to see if the long side tube is full of oil that needs to be protecting the gears and bearings, rarely. In fact, of the several long side tubes I've found that were full of oil, the owners had no clue. Across the board they all looked at me like I was an idiot when I was explaining the bad about tube seals. Then I pull the axle shaft and oil runs out over the top of the seal. That's when it is very okay for me to pull them and toss them in the trash where they belong.
I can see that would be true for most people. I've always been meticulous with maintenance and fluid checks in general. I check diff fluid before each trail run as part of my routine prep., so I'm in there 8 - 10 times per season. Just part of protecting my investment behind the cover.
A lack of follow-on comments to previous comments often means people are left speechless or they have simply given up, not that they're in agreement.

Been a few years since I pulled mine, but if I remember correctly, there should be 3 13mm bolts on the back of the hub and then the large 36 mm nut on the end of the shaft. You got all those off? If so then a few quick blows with a hammer should let the hub slide off the shaft. That is at least what I remember at least.
Oh I have the axle and the hub off as one unit now I’m trying to get the hub of the axle
oh gotcha. If that large nut is off, you should be able to get it to slide off the splines with at most a few taps from a hammer. I think one side of mine I got to come off with my hand. The other side needed slightly more persuasion, but nothing crazy.
Not sure since I can only comment on the two times I've done it on mine. They had also been pulled fairly recently for my regear so they might've been cleaner and less stuck than normal. Haven't had to deal with a stuck one before but someone else will know. I doubt you'd hurt much by hitting it hard to be honest.
If you don't know when the hubs were last replaced it can't hurt. The timkens are well regarded replacements. Can always keep the old ones as spares in the garage in case you get a bad bearing and need the Jeep up fast.
Since I’m getting all new axles and unit bearings. I’ll try and find the nut and washer kit to make it all new
