I’m good with cutting up the OEM fenders. I think I might go this route. It was on the table two years ago, but they were like $550 then! I was like, shit no way, just not worth it. But the flex always attracted me, not transferring energy to the body is good, though those who have aluminum don’t tend to report body damage through hitting them.

Putting in an order. Thinking about just going straight to 35’s without changing setup now, checking bump, making any smal adjustments needed and forging ahead to new realms.

Thanks, good thoughts!
How much bump stop extension is required to run 35's with these?

@jjvw , what are your thoughts on 3.5” SL + 1.25” BL and MCE’s with 35’s? I’ve got 2” bump now, but some hockey pucks on the bench ready if needed.

That would be a bare minimum. The MCEs don't really add much in the way of clearance. You would be running a 9-10" shock depending on how well you fit the pieces together. Use the shock as the hard bump and bring the bump stops close to the compressed length so that jounces can do their job.

The reason for MCEs is to get flare coverage and have a flare that can take some abuse. That was my primary motivation after tearing up the factory fenders.

I'm running Currie bumps. The fronts without any extension is less than 1.5" over stock. The shocks are the limit to up.

That doesn’t exactly give me a hard on, but reality is reality.

Do you get 1” of flex as the tire hits the flare? I’m thinking if the stock fender is cut the seam is gone and you’ve cut away from the seam parallel with the hood, that’s got to give some room.

Sounds like the MCE’s could solve my 33’s bumpstop problem though, maybe even remove a slight amount. Then I’m left with 6 hockey pucks on the bench. I could take up hockey 🏒, which I’ve always loved, so all is not lost.

The common recommendation of 4" + 1.25" with 35s should allow for 11" shock travel on relocated mounts with 5.5" up under stock fenders. That 1/2" matters.

There seems to be some peculiarities with mine that I haven't figured out where I can't quite do that. That's something I'll be digging into this winter.

33s won't create a clearance issue.

I think I’ll do it just to deal with the messed up fenders. They’re only $218 and to replace and one factory fender is minimum $150 with prep and paint materials. Worth trying and testing. Thanks @IPerkWVU and @DrDmoney for reminding me of these and @jjvw for revealing anti-Dickens expectations.

I can play with shock mounts a bit. Do you know how close do your 35s come to the hood with 1.5" Currie bumps?

I ran 35" tires on a Pro Comp 4" and 1" BL but put the BL on after I'd put the taller tires on.

This was just 4" lift & 1"BL

Tangent question, pardon me .. what flares are those? They are interesting.

BesTop in the 6" or 7" wide version. They were good flares for what they were. I never took pictures the day I bought it but it had 33X14x15 TSL Boggers on it so the PO had put these wide flares on. The Jeep had NEVER been Off-Road when I bought it. The lady that owned it just liked the looks of Boggers.
