Propane Splitter Issue

I have a teardrop trailer we’re taking to Moab. It has a 20lb propane tank so I can light the stove. I wanted to add hot water to my small kitchen in the back by buying one of those propane water heaters for camping. I thought I would just get a splitter for the propane tank and run a hose to the propane water heater and this would basically work. When I set it up like that neither the stove light or the propane water heater. When I set them up separately, with each line going directly to the 20 pound propane tank they will work. So, what is my issue? I’m going crazy here. I even turn on the gas really slow when I have both of them hooked up to the splitter just in case there’s a shut off valve internally. If I remove one hose from the splitter, it won’t work on the hose that is hooked up. Seems like something is up with the splitter. It does register that I have pressure in the propane tank. So I have No idea. Each hose has its own regulator.

I don't know the answer, but my camper only has one regulator that feeds all the gas users. After the regulator there's a short rubber gas line that goes into a hard gas line. It looks like painted steel. All the gas users are T'ed into the main gas line.

Maybe the two regulators are causing the problem. Would something like this meet your needs? It has only one regulator.

I had another thought, is the splitter making a good connection to the tank? Cracking the tank open with the two hoses removed would tell you.

I don’t smell gas when I do that, which concerned me

That’s a good question. I’m willing to try that or another splitter.

Yeah, I did that. Didn’t help things. I’ll try again

Those OPD style valves have a check valves and other various gremlins hiding in there to idiot proof them.

Did you swap the connections after the splitter, IE: "green" and "black" switch and see if that cures it?

Or the black hose going to the grill has a regulator, then goes into the grill that has a built in regulator and now the pressure is too low. You might need to replace the black hose with another one w/o a regulator.
