Midnight LJR Build

Since @Alex01 is showing off “his” new ride, I might as well show off the new tow rig.

7.3L gasser, F250 with a Tremor package.

Hope is to throw our four wheel camper on the back and use it for glamping, and towing the Jeep to far away places.

DUUUDE this is exactly what i want to replace my diesel with. How much did you get it for? Were the 7.3Ls as in-demand as the diesels? i heard you can't get anything under MSRP right now.

That will look great towing the my wifes JL. Clearly blue is the "in" color.

Sourgrass!!!!!
A guy near me has the blue so I had to go red. Here’s a shot of mine from Milts, so you can see it towing. Ordered mine in December for well less than invoice, I’d hate to price one now.

Needed a vehicle because my other was going to shit. I did get the pleasure of paying full MSRP. This was the only one I could find at MSRP within 200 miles, all others where marked way up.

Why do you not like the modern diesel trucks? I went a LONG time back and forth about trading my 06 Ram off cause I didn't want to deal with the damn DEF fluid. I have a 6 gal DEF tank & get about 1K miles per gallon which is a lot better than what I'd heard. The one BIG thing I don't like is that it's a lot harder to do mods to the engine.
But I wanted the added towing capacity of a newer truck and this was the only way to get it. I'm at about 23K miles now and it's getting 16 MPG now running empty. I've never gotten the 18-22 MPG guys brag about in any of my trucks.

This newer 6.7 is amazing and I do like the added comfort things my truck has. I do miss the simplicity of my old truck.
I got the 8 year warranty to TRY and keep me from messing with the engine.

My 5th gen 2500 with a 6.7 gets above 20 mpg empty but my commute is flat. - Brag complete.

Well mine is a dually too so that does account for a little... And is that 20 MPG on the lie-o-meter or calculated on paper?

Might be how I drive too... I ain't easy on my throttle. Kind a hard when you can't feel it... Or that is my excuse.

Playing the disability card on bad fuel mileage. Smells like desperation :ROFLMAO:

When the computer says 20+ I don't look too much more into it. Let me live in ignorance. Mine isn't a dually and I drive like a grandma but typically cruise around 70-75. In the mountains, I get around 18mpg and I'm sure where you live has more mountains than here. (where I get 20+)

It’s a $10,500 option on the Ford, so depending on what the real mileage numbers difference are it just didn’t seem worth it for me.

@Alex01 I watched a bunch of those TFL mileage comparison videos shopping for trucks and every new truck I see on there the dash display is within .5 of hand calculated.

Modern diesel is complicated and expensive AF! I like the output numbers of the gas 7.3, i don't need 1000 ft-bls to haul my jeep and its a bit cheaper (hoping like the 6.2 gas they lose more value than a 6.7 diesel) and they appear to be built for fleet reliability, lots of starts / stops which is more how i use my truck as a daily vs long hauling.

I'll admit I'm spoiled and like having my diesels now. But I'd also bought mine to tow with so I wanted the extra power and torque.

Got to use anything I can. I'm on my 4th Ram and none of them have gotten better than 18 MPG hand calculated. The older dash displays were off by 2-3 MPG from my experiance but yes this new truck is within 1MPG all the time.

I went out to Iowa last year to go goose hunting a towed my buddies trailer. We hit some BAD head winds in Nebraska and it sucked watching the MPG dip down to 6 MPG. Boost was up around 10 psi pushing against the wind.

I get it, if you ain't towing all the time it's hard to justify the diesel. I should have kept my 06 rig for another 2-3 years and I'll admit I jumped the gun. I really thought I would be headed out on the road traveling this year. But shit didn't work out.

I got my truck for $12K off MSRP and $21 for my 06 plus the VA kicked in another $21K towards the price so it was worth it to me. And yes modern day diesels SUCK for being able to work on.

I ordered my new 4x4 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel from the factory. Ordered it with a 6 speed and added an exhaust brake. I love that truck and still have it. I'm always towing something. When I first got it, I was hauling horses a lot with a gooseneck to Colorado, Idaho for hunting. Gooseneck had living quarters and was loaded with 3 horses and all our gear, plus hay and water. Now I'm hauling the Jeep, a tractor and soon a small dozer, plus my dump trailer with gravel and firewood. The thing is a "work horse".

I’ve got an 05 Ram with the 6 speed and a Jacobs exhaust brake, love that truck.

I really wish I'd waited to get rid of my 06. The tranny was starting to act up and I needed a reliable rig. And then I really thought I'd be traveling by now so that's why I got a dually. Should have waited 3 more years and fixed my truck.

My favorite Ram was my 08 that I'd deleted all the "NEW" emissions on and had a killer tune on it. It was a 6 speed G56 behind the 6.7. Did some great mods to that truck. Smoked the stock clutch in 10K miles. Put a South Bend dual disc clutch in it. Tranny blew at 30K miles.

Damn wife wanted more room than the camper. Traded the whole setup in on a 2001 Beaver 33' MH. Hated the damn thing.

This was my 06 I got rid of for my new truck.

If dodge still made a 6 speed I would have likely went that route. I don’t believe there are any more full size trucks with manuals on the market.

I have had 2 dodge 3500 diesels and they were both fantastic trucks.

You can't get a manual behind a gas model? I didn't know that. I thought it was just the diesel models.

man thats crazy! I had no idea it was that much for gas to diesel. The new 6.7 sure is nice, especially the 10 speed. The 10r80 is being argued as one of the best transmissions out right now, and I know exactly why. My dad has a 21' F350 tremor with the 6.7-10spd and we used it to tow my jeep down to moab. Towed like a dream for all 15.5 hours lol. How are you liking the newer 7.3? We had the 7.3 powerstroke(diesel) in his 02' F350 with a few "fun" mods and banks tune for towing. Man I miss that thing. I wish they were able to put the old 7.3 behind the new 10 speed. The transmission it came with was the 4r100 that shit the bed 1 too many times. Ended up getting it built and it was unstoppable except the trans gearing was :poop:. its overdrive was worse than the 42rle lol

So far the engine seems great only 300 miles on truck. Like I say as of now I believe there is something wrong with the front end (hoping it’s just alignment) since it wanders all over the road. I need to take it into the dealer. How does your dads tremor drive? Do you find yourself making a lot of steering corrections? This thing was bad enough on the freeway I thought it was crazy windy out only to roll down windows and realize their was no wind.

Dealer cannot get me in until next week, tried to take it into the local alignment shop and he refused to check it for me because his computer didn’t have the specs on a tremor. I was like can you just check it I think it must be toed out and he wouldn’t do it. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I do recall him chasing the wheel at one point, but that was the heavy wind we hit in Nevada, we passed @bobthetj03 in his motorhome towing his jeep. It was pretty scary what the wind was doing to the both of us
