Jeep Wrangler PCM and module repair and replacement

Got hit and insurance wants to salvage my TJ

That's exactly why I was asking...and odds are given the year to fix that properly they already know the cheaper of the two is to total it.

That said they still haven't given him a number. It might be surprising to the good.

IAA isn't allergic to phone calls.

The OP should call them and ask specifically what their intention will be with the Jeep. Do they repair on site...or is it a strictly salvage/auction house.

I did ask when they called to schedule the pick. Lady was beating around the bushes and couldn't give me straight answers to my questions. But she said it would just inspect it and report back to the insurance adjust who will then call me to discuss options.
Told her i didnt not trust getting the car inspected by a auction (who will deem it total the second it reach there without even looking at it). Now am going to reach out to the adjust and get them to come out to me, or a local body shop of my choice.
 
If it were me, and it isn't, I'd take the vehicle to MY body shop of choice, get their estimate, then inform the insurance company that's the price. Pay up. I have never had an insurance company rep inspect a car, and never will. Neither did my father, who had more wrecked cars than I have ever had.

Call the adjuster for sure.
Adjusters (most of them) have freedom to cut checks right from their vehicles.
Perhaps you can work somethimg out.

Just know this...if you go that route you can't come back on them at a later time and say you want more money or realize the damage was far worse than anticipated.

I don't know who the adjuster is with but most have freedom up to certain dollar amounts to get fires out.

Explain that you're reasonable...accidents happen...etc etc.

They do not repair on site, NO. they just inspect them. Guessing they will total it and run it then run it at their auction

You're suggesting he fight a number that he has yet to receive?
He might get offered something surprisingly good.
Some states have things in place you can't just strong arm insurance companies at will.
I don't know the laws in Massachusetts but they might have laws in place that the insurace company only has to take to their vehicles to xyz places.
They're there because stuff would never get done otherwise.
The ins company might say here are three places we deal with..which one do you want an estimate from or the work.

Some dust will settle here and he'll know a lot more talking further with the adjuster and his options going forward.

I'm suggesting he not play the game. The one time I had to get down and dirty over this kind of thing - I told the ins co that I wasn't interested in ripping them off, or making money on the deal - BUT - that I expected my car to be repaired, and repaired right. They kept on trying to total the car, I told them it was $3,800 to repair it (my shop's quote). Long story short, they finally saw it my way and paid my shop the $3,800. The car was fixed, and that was 10 years ago and I'm still driving it today.

I don't give a damn how much they think my car may or may not be worth, and I'm not interested in an adjuster "cutting me a check". I want the car fixed, period. Its only honesty on my part, and holds the insurance company to their end of the bargain.

He fixes his own stuff though and has said he could fix it for xyz dollars.
Plus if he got a check..he's got the freedom to go where and do exactly what he'd like if it's to his satisfaction of course.

Another convo with the adjuster will tell a lot more for him going forward.

Then he tells them that its gonna cost xyz dollars. End of discussion.

I don't know... both ADESA and Manheim are pretty allergic to individuals calling in. hahaha. We wouldn't disclose anything to a consumer, we'd always tell them to contact their insurer or lender(if repossessed vehicle). The auction is providing a service to the seller and will protect the seller as that is their primary customer. Someone might be willing to say more at the auction, but that was never my experience.

From someone that makes it a point to be honest about my dealings and intentions... I don't think holding your cards and accepting a higher number if given is in any way dishonest.

Fact of the matter is no two jobs are alike in the car world unless we are talking a brand new car and a robot doing the assembling. Used cars are all different and human efficiency and error mean every repair job is different.

Once the OP gets in there and starts repairs, he could find that he underestimated what the project would take. Not to mention, we have an opportunity cost. By doing the repairs himself, he may be saving dollars, however he's losing time/personal opportunity to perform other tasks. If the insurance company were paying a shop... they'd be paying not just for the parts, but labor. I think should the OP decide to do the work himself using parts at a lower cost, he's entitled to some compensation for his labor just like any shop.

If he wants to be super honest and has a set $$ amount of what his own hourly rate should be, he can always cut a check back to the insurance company after to reimburse for any difference in hours worked... though I'm sure the insurance company wouldn't want to deal with the associated paperwork and trying to figure out where to apply the monies.
 
Adjuster/inspector came to my house to go over the damages. Said it will be a total lost due to the extent of the damaged.
Cant give me numbers right aways because who knows what, she said it will take 2-3 days. She said they look at similar cars within 75 miles, can extend up to 150 miles. When i search online i dont find these cars within that range.
Hope they dont scrw me up

Can't find a TJ as comparable within 75/150 miles of your location in NE? That seems off.
