You're not wrong. But, after following JK’s on king coilovers with 37-40” tires struggling their way through the Rubicon last week, I have no desire to own newer.
You would need some of it to keep up on the highway plus since you can run 37’s on them without much work. You don't need all that to keep up with a stock JLR...
You just described a large group of folks who in my opinion have more dollars than sense. but if that is what they want to do more power to them ! Wheelin is many different things to many different folks. Blaine and Jerry play in refer. size rocks and mod the suspension like crazy. But they don't commute daily in winter deep snow, bust drifts , or haul water to their house with a 50 gal. tankTrue, from what I see, they pull off the asphalt, engage 4wh and navigate the sandy edge to the hard pack, then at about 1 mile, they pop up the RTT and start a fire, then tell stories with the other 16 vehicles in their group.
Do I sound like a loner?
Hum, The LS though. We are all headed there, down that great wide path that narrows to a single sign that says "LS"You don't need all that to keep up with a stock JLR...
I thought we were talking Offroad, but I’d take my 4.0, 35s and driving skill there for that price. You would need some of it to keep up on the highway plus since you can run 37’s on them without much work.
I didn’t see the only off-road criteria. Even then many off-road trails are gravel roads and they will do fine there.I thought we were talking Offroad, but I’d take my 4.0, 35s and driving skill there for that price.
eventually I’ll be rid of this horribly inefficient 4.0… then I start to cross into the same cost territory…

But comparing something with 16 year old parts to something with all new parts comes into play. What I outlined is nearly all new to all new.
Don’t be surprised that some of them have more money than senseI assumed a bit, but other than trails pretty much any vehicle keeps up with a JLR.
I’d expect my Jeep to exceed what a JLR will do, or at least what the owner will risk![]()
Check out revkit. We may or may not have kept him and his wheeling partner (spouse?) from rolling two jeeps.Don’t be surprised that some of them have more money than sense
I'm sad that you think I only have one build plan, only build to that, and it only does one thing.Blaine and Jerry play in refer. size rocks and mod the suspension like crazy. But they don't commute daily in winter deep snow, bust drifts , or haul water to their house with a 50 gal. tank
Don't be sad Blaine ! I only know of your rock crawling / Johnson Valley activities. No doubt you , ( like many here ) could build to any application ! That said I only know of your rock crawling ventures. If you have photos of your Jeep daily driving in deep snow and utilityI'm sad that you think I only have one build plan, only build to that, and it only does one thing.
Jeepers! some serious flash going on.Check out revkit. We may or may not have kept him and his wheeling partner (spouse?) from rolling two jeeps.
ill buy and build one eventually - glws!Well I missed out on….no, I didn’t miss anything.
If you want to with a nice off-road trailer, I’ll make you a deal on mine.

But Jerry, I don’t have any friends anymore…How does any of that prevent a mechanical problem that strands you in an area without cell or repeater service? Or a physical injury or event (heart attack etc.) that makes it impossible to keep going or call out for help in the remote areas we wheel in?
Wheeling alone is asking for serious trouble. Families don't deserve the uncertainty of if their loved one will make it home.
Wheeling with a buddy or two is more fun too.![]()
I appreciate that! My problem is my TJ is already a trailer queen. She is trailered everywhere. I’ve had her for three years now and have only put 1800 miles on it. 99% of it off road. I have not considered a overland trailer (yet). Most of what we do is a combo of crawling ( my kinda wheeling) and expedition style. That may be where a trailer is handy. I’m hoping in the next four years that my son either takes my TJ or builds a rig of his own ( with my help or maybe a completed or close to finished rig). Either way, it will free up some room and have two rigs on the trail. Cause if he takes mine, I’m going to find a LJ or stretch a TJ a little and build it a little different. We honestly plan to keep it, we love it! And I know it’s hard to find a non rusted one…but WSS is good people and I’d help him out if he is interested.
I know wheeling for me for the next year is going to be sparse.![]()
Easy answer, if your not capable. Don’t go. That is how you prevent the ails you mention. I forgot to mention I also carry a Phillips heartstart. And a 24v welder. How does any of that prevent a mechanical problem that strands you in an area without cell or repeater service? Or a physical injury or event (heart attack etc.) that makes it impossible to keep going or call out for help in the remote areas we wheel in?
